Farley is having this surgery on the 13th by the Vet I work for and trust 100%, we did his pre-op blood work today. I am a nervous wreck, luckily will be there the whole day he's in the office though.
Has anyone had this done and how was the outcome?
In the "real" world it would cost me about $1500
and that includes his dental cleaning and pulling an extra baby tooth behind his top row of adult teeth and lower lumbar x-rays, but since I work there and get 75% off it's going to cost me about $375ish.
Good luck with your baby...I am a wreck and my Vet is one of my good friends!! LOL
If I may ask...
What this procedure is costing you about? Diesel is going in for his palate to be trimmed and the stenotic nare procedure as well in 2 weeks and its costing me like 2 grand... Either way best wishes to you and your BD
make sure they cut back in to the nasal terbinates and not just
its worthless.

Thank you...you are extremely helpful!
I fully understand.
He will be uncomfortable with the surgery(s) but hopefully you can keep him quiet (sleep is good because it blocks out everything)and feed him small amounts of cool (not frozen) food, keep ice cubes in his waterdish, everything you can do those first few days to minimize swelling and avoid panting and he should do fine. The greatest concerns, as you well know, are with inhaling vomit during recovery, and you will be there to watch him "like a hawk" that first hour post-op, and after he takes his first couple drinks hours later, etc.
Cont...thought of surgery scares me.
I know (ok, HOPE) that it will help him in the long run, but you always have than nagging in the back of your mind to is it right to do this....or should I "wait" it out and see how he does kind of thing. I don't want him to be uncomfortable at all, I want him to be the healthiest, happiest bulldog I can possibly have.
Thanks Elaine! Even though I trust my Vet 100%, the
Then proceed with your plans and you're fortunate to
have him near you during recovery. Best wishes to both pup and his surgeon!
Thanks for the response!! We are also having his soft
palate trimmed at the same time, he's got some issues..LOL His left nostril is just a tiny slit and the right one is a little bigger. He constantly "whistles" when he breathes even just walking around.I know it's going to be a sensitive spot, but I am very lucky that he will go to work with me everyday during his recovery and be monitored by the staff. I am just hoping it helps him, I think even a little more would be more comfortable for him. Poor kid.
In general, I don't favor doing this because
stenotic (pinched or narrow) nares (nostrils) usually indicates a narrowing all through the nasal passage and widening the outer edge is like creating a funnel...it may not actually help him breathe any better/easier and it is painful to the dog (a very sensitive area) however if his really look pinched and you have this type of confidence in the doc doing the surgery, I would go ahead. Keep in mind that there can be swelling at this site also so that initially the dog may not feel benefit for a few days to a few weeks, but maybe the correction will be small, too.
