Charlie has always had soft poops..I have tried changing his foodmany times.. it did get formed one time, then turned soft again.
I have him on a dehydrated raw kibble..been on it a few weeks,, till real soft unformed poops.
I realy don't want to keep changing his food!
I had his stools vet examined for parasite etc..all came out negative.."have you tried changing foods" EK!
Question... how dangerous is it for a dog to have soft unformed poops?
He is fine in every other way..too hyper for my taste ..LOL
I have had
great firm poop success with Wellness grain free!
Vet just gave us new ones...the latest ones are
acid resistant so they aren't killed in the stomach. I will check when I get home and let you know the name.
Re: I have had
Congrats! How many dog foods did you have to go through to find the right one? I'll have to keep that one in mind..

wilson had soft poop till he was....
almost a year....i feed him raw...i upped his bone amount and that would help but then he would go back soft...my vet said as long as he is gaining weight healthy...all his blood work was normale...thats the way he is....when he turned a year his poop became firm...still has soft poop once in while....i just wipe him off and clean his tail pocket...its just him i guess....
as you can see he is a fat happy boy
Re: By the way this also helps with too frequent bowel movements
Thanks for the info! What probiotics do you use? I order geneflora to try.

By the way this also helps with too frequent bowel movements...
Hooch used to FIVE times a day...with this and probiotics he's at a more normal 2x.
I actually give only once a day and only until his poop firms
up...for Hooch, if I give it too often seems he can get constipated, but he has issues with that at times too, so I just use it as needed. He gets probiotics separately with every meal.
Re: This has helped Hooch tremendously
Thanks for the heads up! I'm lurking on this post but my dog also has this issue so I'm hoping you can answer a few more questions...
1) Do you give 1/4 a teaspoon with EVERY FEEDING? (I feed 3x a day). And did you start off with a smaller dose?
2) How soon did you see results?
3) If I give this do I need to give yogurt as well?

Re: soft poops
How old is your dog? My 13 week old pup has had soft poops since I brought him home. What kind of food are you using now? Is your dog otherwise healthy and gaining weight? My dog is doing a little bit better on C. natural lamb and rice as opposed to the chicken and rice formula but they are by no means firm. I've been recommended to try a probiotic and I'll see if that works. Have you tried that yet? I did hear that changing foods too much can cause stomach upset.
Someone on the dogforums.com said she tried several high end foods and the only thing that worked was purina dog chow. I know people don't recommend that food because of all the additives but some people believe all the organic foods may be hard for some dogs to digest. I'm still trying to get to the bottom of this as well so if you come up with any solutions I'm all ears.
Good luck!

Chester was like that too...
as soon as we took him off his puppy food and switched to adult, he had soft and sometimes runny poops no matter what food we tried. We finally put him on a prescription low fat diet, which was really crappy food, but it did the trick. Once he was stabalized for a few months, we got him on a grain free food and he's been fine ever since.

I haven't
had Bobo very long so he has mostly been on TOTW- either bison or prarie, Canidae grain free and now Wellness, which has the best poop result. :0) My other 2 eat it as well, althugh they don't seem to like it as well. Bobo will eat anything, he doesn't care how it tastes.
