Soap suds enema? No poo.

I have a pup that hasn't pooed in 1.5 days, shes 18 days old. I have tried kayro, running her bum under warm tap water, massage and mylicon drops when I thought she was crying due to gas.

Tonight I put the tip of the thermometer dipped in vaseline just into the opening of her rectum. Still nothing.

Can I give a mild soaps sud enema? Has anyone used one? I really need help, she is starting to act differently and I am afraid for her.

Thanks,
Heather

Puppy 6 days old

would this work with such a young pup too, no matter what I do or the mother does it poo's alittle but I think by the way it is acting it is constipated.

constipated

I used it on a pup less than 1 week and it worked very nicely with the liquid glycerin. I got it at wallmart. It also comes in supos. but they are too big for a little baby! I used an eye dropper and filled it 1/2 full with the liquid glycerine and then put a bit of vaseline on the tip. I placed it into the rectal opening just enough to get it in and the squirted it in and within 10 min out came the poop! It cannot hurt as it is glycerine and is non toxic with no meds in it. It is basically a lubricant. If there is stool it will come out and if you get no stool than maybe there is some other issues going on. Soap suds enema in such a young pup would be too harsh and works by volume. I would not even consider this in a pup so young or even in a grown dog. Hope this helps!

enema

Also keep in mind the use of the child size glycerine suppositories and also they come in the liquid form! Very benign and gentle. I used on very young puppy and it worked well!

funny you should mention the match

I called my mentor last night prior to me using the enema, and she mentioned the match stick. I didn't try it because I didn't have regular matches and I wasn't told "why" it worked. Now I know, thanks!

BTW: I think with enema's it is suggested that one goes to the vet to have this done on a young puppy, so just because I did it, please know that this can cause problems if not properly done.

that is great news

you can also cut a narrow sliver off a child's suppository and slip it in the anus. Works well. Old timers used to put a match up the anus. Said the sulphur makes them poo. Never tried the latter myself though and not sure I'd recommend it.

I got poo!!

Thanks, I didn't get your message in time. I ended up using 2 cc's of very warm water and after about 2-3 minutes I had poo. She acts like a different pup now. I am so relieved!

Thanks for the response!

Rather than this, consider the child's version of Fleets?

? Using a syringe, I'd only do a couple cc's.

poor baby girl

no help here hope she is going to go poo soon
