So, Spike is having anal gland issues, went back to the food he was on for the past year which is California Natural Fish based, pooping more, but the anal glands are still terrible.
Jackson started having head tremors again, I assumed it was from the food, because when I took him off of California Natural and onto Nutro, herring they stopped. Jackson is now eating Simple Solutions Duck, which I just bought yesterday. I had changed him to Blue Buffalo Basics, and the head tremors started again, along with terrible tear stains.
Lola, Mack and Bella are eating Blue Buffalo Basics, but their tear stains have gotten out of control, real red and inflamed.
The shar-pei love the blue buffalo, my 11 year old was very finicky but she is wolfing this down, so.... Do I keep the shar-pei on the Blue Buffalo, fish formula and change the bullies to something other than fish based protein source, like Duck, or rabbit. Thye have tried lamb, chicken etc.....
for the anal gland problem....
brown rice is high in fiber....you might want to try a cup a day...reg brown rice not the instant...its more than likely the chemicals in the food and not the food source....try seeing what is in the bag your having so much problems with....and if its in any of the other food you dont have problems with...

So far so good.
Jacinda what are oyu feeding now?
nm
Thanks good suggestions
I ahd added canned pumpkin for a few days, then Spike who is a great eater, stopped and would eat his food with the pumpkin in it. So I will try the brown rice.
Thanks for the responses!
I will try grain free again. Hopefully this will help Spike!
I would try a grain free food
With grain free, the dogs have firmer stools which I believe helps the anal glands from becoming impacted. Before going grain free, Morgan needed her anal glands expressed about every 3 weeks. Now she can go a few months without needing them expressed.
Are you feeding the blue buffalo salmon? If so...
it has rice and oatmeal which won't help with the tear stains. You probably need a completely grain free food for that. We feed Taste of the Wild salmon although we found the same thing at Costco for half the price, called Natures Domain. Ollie used to have horrendous tear stains and they are completely gone now. The anal glands just need firm poops, so maybe you could try adding some pumpkin to make them firmer. It's always confusing when everyone is on a different food, but sometimes that's the only answer. Hope it all gets worked out!
