Do your bulldogs smell? I have been thinking that Bobo smells because of his skin issues. He really reeks, you can smell him across the room and most of the smell is from under his neck, where the wrinkles and fold are. Because of his skin, he has a medicated bath every 3rd day and I keep him as clean and dry as I can. I THINK he might be getting a little better (knock on wood). I was told that he might smell because his skin is sloughing off and regrowing but frankly, I am not even sure that is happening. Do any of you have experience with demodectic mange and if so, once the mange is gone how long does it take for the skin to heal and fur to maybe regrow? It would be helpful for me to know if bulldogs have a bad smell even if their skin is fine. He is just the SWEETEST dog ever!
Thanks
Thanks
I agree...with an active outbreak of yeast infection
my concern about using baby wipes is twofold: it leaves moisture behind, and you can be spreading it around, wiping with the same 'cloth' can spread infections from one wrinkle to another spot on the face/neck. Peroxide also dries pretty much on contact but it won't sting as much as rubbing alcohol, yet it won't be as cidal as alcohol. Some ear wash solutions, containing chlorhexidine, make good skin cleansers too. I guess you have to try a couple options to decide what works best for you and your dog.

smelly dog
Our bully Zetterberg had demo mange when he was about 6 months old and was smelly. After two dips and around 20 days his fur grew back and he was fine.
The wrinkles on his face have to be cleaned daily or they get nasty. Our vet told us to use rubbing alcohol on cotton balls because it will dry itself and kills bacteria, works great. And as he gets older (almost a year old now) he has developed more wrinkles that have to be cleaned. If I don't keep on top of it he gets smelly. Hope this helps...

Re: Baby wipes
I have in the past but wouldn't now incase of a reaction to them. they also will leave residue behind and you will have to dry the wrinkles yourself after you clean them, drying them is very important. I stick with the rubbing alcohol because it cleans and drys by its self.

Re: Smell
Some dogs do put off a doggy odor but a dog that has skin issues can be a little more on the smelly side. My one male that I had was treated for skin issues his entire life and when he was having an outbreak of yeast he would be a little more smelly. You have him on the medicated baths and meds and I think as his skin continues to heal the odor will subside. It is something you will have to keep on top of though. If the heavy folds and wrinkles get moist and dirty they will start to smell so it is a daily thing to keep them clean and dry.

My guy Mack, too have to keep on top of cleaning out his folds. I use a 50/50 mix of white vinegar to water on a cotton puff, like the ones you use to take off your make up. That works wonders on his face and ears.
