skin problems
Submitted by Anonymous on April 20, 2010 - 11:13pmI need help for my 3yr old bullie been to the vet alot and the same answer he is allergic to something and we will never know what. I am sooooo tired of hearing that. can someone help Champ and me? he has been breaking out bumps all over his body, the vet says give him benadryl or the meds he gave when ever the bumps appear i dont want to keep giving him pills, hes been getting the bumps alot more lately, he wont even go outside we have to carry him to get him out, he hates the grass, I dont know if its his food beneful, the grass, I don't know what to do can anyone help us? My girls all had skin problems. I changed the food and their skin has never looked better. Every dog is different so you will have to experiment. Corn was the culprit in mine. Good Luck

And also, when you DO try the new food....
give it time to work! At least two months. That should show you if it is helping or not. Don't do rapid food changes...like one to another brand every time the bag is empty. Like I said, it can take time to get all teh old stuff out of his system and get him going in the right direction:-)

Another thing to do right now: Wash anything he comes into
contact with in a DYE FREE and PERFUME FREE detergent. Arm & Hammer makes one, so does All. Do not use any fragrances around him at all.

Definitely get him off the Beneful....nothing should be
that color. Believe me, there are MUCH MUCH better foods out there...a few to look into: Wellness, Natural Balance, Orijen, California Natural...but there are many and you may have to change a few times to find the right one for YOUR bully. My Hooch has severe allergies and we had him allergy tested, so your vet is wrong about "we'll never know what he's allergic to." Hooch is allergic to many types of grass, weeds, trees, dust mites, chicken, duck, lamb, carrots, white potatoes...the list goes on.
WIth the right food and the help of a holistic vet, he is doing so much better. If you want to talk more, don't hesitate to email me. I know how frustrated you must be.

We have a LOT of bullies who have allergies...my girl does and the best she does is on the Natural Balance Fish and Sweet Potato. You also need to make it a point to feed you dog anything but that food. No treats, no people food, nothing that he can have a reaction to. There are a lot of other people here that can help you more....just hang on and they will respond.
Also, go to the search box and type in skin allergies....you will get a LOT of results you can skim through for more information.

Be careful about feeding foods such as Beneful. They have by-products. yeast, and dyes in them that can affect your bulldogs skin and coat especially if they are sensitive. Make sure to read all the ingredients on the package. I would suggest researching some better brands of foods to start and see where that takes u. Good luck! Hopefully ur baby will be able to start enjoying the outdoors =]
