Shampoo for dog with major allergies?

Does anyone know of a good shampoo that would work for a bully that has major allergies? I have tried all kinds of things on Mason and have about used all the different shampoos you can get at Petco with no luck but with him itchy like crazy. I have also used the malaseb shampoo which made him itch really bad too suprisingly. I'm thinking he might be allergic to oatmeal in shampoos. The thing is I need a shampoo that actually has a smell to it because if you use a fragrence free shampoo he still smells(he constantly has a yeasty smell to him). If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

i agree.. i use the micro-tek from eqyss

My dogs has yeasty and itchy issues from allergies for a while too, I use to just use mango tango, and i tried chlorhexderm (sp?) because the vet reccommended it and it didnt help.

someone on this site reccommended micro-tek and it is the best! it makes them reallly soft. the smell lasts longer on the dogs as well. itchiness is going away and kibby's dandruff is gone.

i found this really cheap dog supply store petedge.com , where you can get this and other dog supplies at wholesale! good luck!

baby shampoo

give it a try

Pyoban is often recommended with mange

because it tends to open the pores which is where the mites live, thus allowing the skin to heal more quickly. Malaseb is antibacterial and antifungal, as I recall, and its used when there are skin issues other than mange...and of course, it can be used on a mange-infected dog as well...but I've seen Pyoban recommended for more specific skin needs.

shampoo

I had used malesab and wasnt too impressed. my vet recommended Pyoben, my understanding it is "stronger" than maleseb. josie does really well with it, and she was a real mess when i got her from rescue so the medicated shampoo was a must. mange, allergies, just bad skin issues all the way around. Just a thought. J & T

I did that

for Bobo too but as it turns out he wasn't yeasty so no wonder I didn't see any difference. I think it is a great home remedy.

First comment is that he needs an apple-cidar vinegar rinse.

I'm not particularly into holistic medicine but there are some basics that I think everyone can apply, and if he has a tendency to be "yeasty" than I do think the vinegar rinse will help with that malady (not cure it, but help control it) and of course any shampoo used needs to be rinse off very well, using your fingertips run thru his fur to be sure you are getting down to the skin (using swirling motions), not just pouring water over him. If he's flaky, consider using one of the human dandruff shampoos, like Selsun or Head-n-Shoulders but again, caution that you need to rinse well...and if you can keep him in the tub or shower enclosure, wait a couple minutes after the shampoo/rinse cycle before you do the vinegar rinse (dilute about one cup vinegar in one gallon warm water). If you go to a pet shampoo salon to do the bathing (rather than at home) you can mix up the rinse solution at home in an empty milk container and bring it with you. happy.gif

Finally

There might be something I know about! Bobo also has bad allergies and I have had really good success with 2 shampoos:

Equiss tec (sorry, not sure of the spelling, it's a horse shampoo, smells delish) and this Zymox medicated shampoo and rinse. It says to only "pat dry" the rinse but I live in northern MN and it's too cold to leave him wet so I dry him more. Also smells good!

Neither shampoo is toxic at all or has any systemic reaction. Good luck!
