Hello!
I know the scooting on the floor is from the anal glands. Gunther is doing it so much lately (the last week or so). A lot in the middle of the night too, along with grunting. I'm not sure what to do for him? Currently I can't bathe him. He had a lumpectomy last week and still has the staples in from his incision, so we can't get it wet. Staples should be out next week. We have never had his anal glands expressed. He has scooted around before but not this much. Nightimes are rough too. He is restless and keeping me up!
Do you think maybe his incision is bothering him, making him itchy and he's taking it out on his bum? LOL (No Clue). The itching may be making him restless at night...
Thanks all of you great people!
Jackie and Gunther

The gland is easy to express. Usually on the couch or rug freaking everyone out with the smell. I've heard of Vets charging $45 dollars to do this, Not my Vet.
I'd get a paper towel or two, and place it between the dogs anus and your hand as a shield, and maybe wear maybe a plastic glove cause it can linger. The openings to the gland is on each side [2]. A site on the web would give you the exact location like 10 and 2, on the clock. Position your fingers on each side and press gently like you would a pouting babies face to make them smile, and if they are full, you will have results on the paper towel. Be sure to wipe the dog. If I'm not accurate someone let me know as this is how I have done it in the past and it works for me.
