Redness

Sorry for what is likely a duplicate post based upon some of the items I've found searching.

I have a mostly black bully, so it's nearly impossible to see tear stains etc.

I just recently saw redness around her nose under the wrinkle, but not so much under her wrinkle that you can't see it - you can see it when you look at her normally. Depending upon how she looks scrunches her face you can see it. I also see a few red marks on her skin.. I assume it's some form of allergy reaction etc. or simply dog acne, she just turned one so thinking it may be tied to that.

I wanted to see, is this most likely the case, and what would you recommend, just trying to clean the area and keep it dry etc?

Does anybody have a picture of their dog nose pockets that have been red in the past, so I can compare?

Also, how does one know if it's infected etc?

I"m going to try to take a picture tonight to share.

found it...

Plz give Joe name of Malaseb wipes "substitute"

Thanks for some info

Thanks very much for the good info and advice.

We do clean the fold, just not often as her fold has been pretty small until as of late as she's continues to grow.

I believe it's just a matter of keeping it cleaner etc. and it doesn't stink, isn't stick etc.

I still want to try to take a pic, to see what the experts on here think though - I should have my camera out for Thanksgiving and will share..

I looked for some of those masaleb wipes but cannot find a place that has them in stock online, anybody have a place they use that has them not on backorder?

Some thoughts

redness alone would not concern me because the fur is very thin and short inside that nose fold, and it doesn't get a lot of "air" but if it is "sticky and/or stinky" that would cause concern for likely fungal involvement, so just cleaning it periodically (not necessarily more than 2xweek) and putting a little medicated powder or even corn starch in the fold (using a 'nosed' squirt bottle similar to a mustard container would be recommended so you don't get powder in the eyes or inside the nose either.

As for what to clean this fold with, there are several options including an earwash solution, babywipe, peroxide on cotton ball, or even a wash cloth with light suds from liquid Dial soap, but need to rinse that out well to not leave any residue.

If the fold becomes quite irritated, you can apply Animax or diaper cream or little Neosporin ointment...but don't put powder on top of these moist preparations or you make a goopy mess of this area and the results of that will be an itchy dog. happy.gif

Thanks

When you use these, do you simply clean with them and let the area dry naturally or do you recommend trying to powder and/or dry the area after you clean with the wipe?

I'm going to take some pictures tonight as her redness has not seem to disappear although I have been trying to clean the area daily now etc.
