Rear right leg

Toby does not appear to be putting weight on rear right when walking. He did a lot of running at the dog park today but he did not walk weirdly until tonight. I am so worry. Maybe he is sore from running? but why only on one leg? He is not jumping on me at all which he usually do. sad.gif

Ok. I think he just has too much running and sprained it.

He never ran so much before. Today at the dog park he kept playing fetch with a group of dogs. But there were no sign of anything wrong until more than 6 hours later. Probably because he was so tired and sleeping most of the time that I did not notice. NO park for him tomorrow. I am just very worry.

Hopefully just a strain or pulled muscle

If it were a ligament tear he wouldn't likely be putting any weight on it at all...and perhaps not even wanting to stand or walk. Just give him a quiet day tomorrow and he should be fine. happy.gif

that's great news. I know how hard it is to crate

these dogs.  They love to roughhouse.  Jackson had his surgery in September, and he is still crating him because he wants that suture to really get the scar tissue built up and the mucsle around it too.  He has just been letoff leash for potty and he immediately started to run, then he will start to limp a little because he still get s sore at times.  It's a long process, but I would continue the crating until you see him putting weight on it.  It could be two to three weeks, and then if he is still favoring it, then I would have xrays done.  My vet took on elook at Jackson and knew it was his acl as did I.

You have to crate him. He has to have complete

crate rest for at least a week.  Leash walk to go potty no running or playing or jumping on anything. Trust me Jackson just had has ACL done.  Try this first then I would suggest seeing a vet if this doesn't improve.  It sounds to me just what Jackson did before his surgery.

Another Update

I pen him up as much as I can. Today he is walking on all 4 completely but of course he is still not putting complete pressure on his injured foot. He has so much energy because he is penned up a lot. Each time he is out, he jumps and want to play. So I quickly give him a toy so that he will chew it in one spot. Overall, he is getting better.

Aww Toby...sorry your leg is still sore!

I still think its a sprain/strain and you will have your hands full trying to keep him quiet. Have you ever given him a pain medication? How did he respond?

Update

Still limping. Seems to be worst right after he woke up. But after a while he was able to put weight on it when going to the bathroom. He avoid jumping on furniture. He try to stand up on his hind legs when there was something interesting on the kitchen counter. But I quickly ask him to sit. I feel so bad for him. I think I might buy him a new toy.
