sorry it's so late, had a busy day. Went back to the store to get more food, and realized I completely read my original receipt wrong! It's actually going to cost $144 per month to feed Audrey this food. So, the meat grinder will be purchased sometime in January. My husband said the slaughterhouse he got his beefheart from has chicken as well as beef, and he'll look into it. Hopefully they'll have lamb also. He got some huge packs of steaks from Costco today, it'd be cheaper to feed her that! I will still get the Primal for now, we only get one paycheck a month and I have other things I need to pay for. I want to give it some time also to see if it really helps with her face. I noticed her face is really stained again, but the difference between the staining now and the staining before we put her on Angel's Eyes, is this time it doesn't smell bad. Under her nose rope is very gooky now too, I just can't figure out why. That doesn't have that nasty yeasty smell either. I hope that's a sign that it's getting better! We have switched her to bottled water, I need to find a sink filter that will remove chloramines, to help reduce that cost. This dog is turning out to be quite expensive! I look at it as: I was spending the money anyways, but now I am spending it on food and water instead of ear tests and vet bills, and Angel's Eyes. I am still a bit nervous to try to make her food, but I think I will focus on a wide variety to make sure she gets all the nutrients she needs. I have a few months to plan it out and figure out exactly what I am going to do. Or maybe the economy will miraculously improve and I won't have to worry so much about paying for it already made!

Cost
Hi! I just wanted to tell you another option, I have a friend who feeds her dogs raw, she gets 40lb packs of chicken backs from a place in town (probably butcher) and the dogs get 1 chicken back in the morning and then a "mush" at night (you could use the primal or Natures variety if you didnt want to do your own) She finds it to be cost effective. MUCH cheaper than the pre packaged stuff I'm thinking of starting Cash on this.
Good luck! I've enjoyed reading your raw diaries
this is what i add for supplements....
1) vit c 500mg once day
2) 1 cod liver oil twice a day....is very high in the omega i find it better than vit e...
3) 1 probitic a day...to keep the healthy bacteria in the guts active....
once a week i buy 1/2 lb fresh salmon now this is for 3 dogs average weight 52 lbs..... give less than a 1/2 cup each.....
maybe twice a week either 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese.....or plain vanilla yougurt...to make it intresting for their taste buds....
this is what i add.....you can mix it up your way...keeps things intresting.....
I'll add the vit C
I was going to start her on glucosamine with vit C but the ones I found have whey in them and we have eliminated dairy as part of our food trial. It hasn't been nearly long enough yet for me to start re-introducing things so I just got plain human glucosamine and I'll look for the vit c.
Thanks!

thanks for the info
so far eliminating grains has made her stop itching, and her face doesn't smell anymore, so we're ging to keep her grain free. I'll try the vitamin when I get up the nerve to try making my own food!

it takes 30 to 60 days
to see any great improvements in change of any diet....some dogs go thru a detox where they will get alot worse before getting better some not all.... this is where people will say raw diet did nothing for my dog they fed kibble for years but want the raw diet to cure everything in a month....as long as your seeing a positive change keep going also i would start giving vit c 500mg a day this helps with the eye staining.....wilson still as some eye staining not as bad as before but still their.....as for his rope and tail pocket i still clean them...their places were the air does not get to...so i have to keep them clean.... i guess you would call that bulldog housekeeping....
your doing good,,,,,,
throwing this out for what it may be worth....
My old boy is currently going to a dermatologist to try to help with chronic ear and coat issues. I roasted leg of lamb and cooked oatmeal for him for 6 weeks only to see everything get worse on him. Now he is on a speciality kibble, 2 weeks and counting.
But I digress - the bit of info to pass on to you is that the Vet recommended I give my dog 1/2 of a Centrum (adult human) vitamin am and pm. He said it would cover his needs well and had a very low risk of being an allergy trigger.
So if you are worried about covering your dog's vitamin and mineral needs, try the Centrum.
Re: Raw diet diary day 5
Cathy, thanks for posting all of this info on the raw diet. I think that is the best way to get information... and there are so many options out there, this board (and your diary) have been very interesting reading. Chloe doesn't have any food issues, but it is always good to have the info. Hope you get the economics of it on your side, although I agree with what you said... better to spend the $$$ on food than vet bills.
Thanks again!
