How does a dog contract a yeast infection on skin? Is it triggered by allergies to food, environment, water or any combination of the above? What holistic/natural remedies can be used to prevent, avert or help build the immune system against this type of infection? I have a 9mo old Bullie female with skin testing pos for yeast. It shows as a redness and hair loss, but she does not scratch nor does it seem to bother her eating and general demeanor. I have a medicated shampoo to bathe her in and I shall do that tonight and I started her on Ketoconizole for a month, with instructions to take her off of it if she seems to stop eating and have no appetite. Just want to do the best for her in addition to the vet's recommendations. Thanks for your input!
Ah...diagnosis is the perogative of the doctor!
I can help sometimes with possible causes, but individual patients need doctor care. Sorry.
Thank you! I value highly your knowledge on these subjects and
will certainly watch her closely. Do you have any other information on the how and why of yeasty infections?
Keto has caused some dogs 'problems' with serious
stomach cramps, etc....some are okay with it but DO watch your dog for her ability to process this medication. Its a good basic oral anti-fungal and I suggest you give it with food (but not with any antacid medication). If your dog has some slight gastric upset with this medication, try dividing the dose and giving it 2xday, with food...may help with tolerance for it.
My dog had yeast in her ears
and her face(tear stains) smelled like it constantly. We never tested her face to see if it was yeast, but the smell was quite disitinct. I used Angel's Eyes, and it cleared up the discoloration beautifully, but it did NOT stop the smell. (her eyes still run no matter what)She would also very frequently get red raw spots around her wrinkle. I switched her to a raw diet and no more yeasty ears, no more smelly face wrinkles, and no more red raw patches either.
