puppies stir / cry before 2 hours
Submitted by shabbyshoppin on April 20, 2010 - 11:14pm11 day old puppies nurse for 30 minutes every 2 hours. They awaken and cry before 2 hours every single time. They are gaining weight / current weight ranges from 1LB 9 oz to 2LBS. Momma is not thrilled about laying down and feeding 1/2 hour every 2 hours. She always wants to sit up 1/2 way thru feeding. Puppies act like crazy piranas when nursing!!! 2 smaller pups whine/stir around after 1/2 hour feeding so I top them off with formula and then they rest comfortably.
Any suggestions please? Do I ignore cries and wait 2 hours? Feed when show signs of hunger? How in the world will they ever go 3 or 4 hours without eating when they can't go 2?

I think that was it!
yesturday after trying everything else, I decided to move the light up about 6 inches and discovered that was the problem.... they all slept so peacefully for 3 hours! Slept 3 hours between feedings since!

Maybe she doesn't have enough milk and...
they need to be topped off with a bottle.
Are they to warm? They will cry & cry is they are to warm.

let them sleep until they wake up
put the smaller ones on the back teets first for a few minutes and then the bigger ones on. You might top off the little ones before putting them back in bed. Momma just needs to relax a bit, you might make sure she eats before laying down.

the large ones are done in 15 to 20 minutes, they move off and wonder around. The little ones go 1/2 hour and fall asleep I wake them up, and get them to suck for a little longer.
it appears to me the little ones are not hard suckers and do not get the adequate amount, but they are gaining weight because i feed so often, momma is not liking this.
Should i wake them up and supplement or just keep up with every 1 1/2 to 2 hours?
I use nutri-cal on teats.
