Probiotics.....

If I am going to purchase some probiotics in powder form for our two is there any difference between human probiotics that I can get from a health food store and pet probiotics?? I would think there is no difference but I just wanted to make sure.

Thanks.

Our holistic vet just told us to be sure you get the kind that s

ACID RESISTANT...dogs have more acid in their stomachs than we do.

I was told

it would take lots and lots of yogurt to get the same benefit as using a powered Probiotic. Then there is the whole issue with yogurt being a dairy product and the problems that can create if the dog is or becomes lacto intolerant.

I heard someone say that Activia yogurt is good to give

as a sort of "probiotic" to aid digestion, help regularity, reduce gas, etc. I don't know its percentage of content tho.

It's called

Total Biotics by Ultra Pet. I order it on-line. I usually buy 6 jars at a time and store it in the freezer till I'm ready to use. Then, I store in the frig. One jar lasts a pretty long time for the dogs. I give it with every meal.
I buy from petenzymes.com. happy.gif

Thanks!!

I appreciate you checking your bottle, thanks again!! How much do you give with each feeding? We have a 62 pounder and a 57 pounder.

Here you go...

Each scoop has 5 million CFU's of live pro-biotic.
L. acidophilus DDS-1, B. bifidum, B. infantis, B. longum, L. casei, L. helvecticus, L. plantarum, L. rhamnosis, L. salivarius, L. lactis, S. thermophilus, FOS Fructo-Oligosacharides (a pre-biotic).
Again, I would think human stuff is OK. Many quality pet foods boast "human grade" ingedients!
BTW - one scoop is equal to approximately 625 mg. happy.gif

I wouldn't think so...

I'll post the ingredients of the pet probiotic powder I use so you can compare (I'm on my phone, right now - have to get to a computer).
