preventive eye care

While I was researching cherry eye online (going to the vet tomorrow to get that checked out) I read that it's a good idea to clean a bulldog's eyes weekly with sterile eyewipes or eye wash. Can I get some recommendations for what eye solutions to use and how often for eye care maintenance?

Thanks!

Re: Not sure that any "fix" is needed if it ain't "broke"...howe

Thanks for the post, Ela1ne! I had also been under the assumption to leave the eyes alone unless they become infected but I wanted to run this by this forum after reading about weekly eye care online. I appreciate the suggestions in the event that eye solutions are needed!

Not sure that any "fix" is needed if it ain't "broke"...however

if you are asking what is a good product to keep in your doggie cupboard for use as needed in a bulldog's eye (for occasional dryness, light irritation, or to rinse out soap or other offending articles, I would say plain Artificial Tears without any preservative, and there are several good brands including GenTeal Tears. For use with a more frequent need to lubricate, especially overnight, some may prefer a gel formula, or even artificial tears in an ointment. I think if one is not careful wiping the eye, you can possibly do more damage than just leaving them alone to function normally.
