pregnant female?

Hi everyone, I have a 2 year bitch that has never been bred. In July when she had her3rd cycle we bred her AI. with a great, proven stud. The semen was shipped in the vet did 2 breedings and said it was text book. She went to her ultrasound at 31-34 days and the vet could not find 1 puppy. I contacted the studs owner and she said she has been told this and her bitch has had pups. My dog does go for a follow up ultrasound in 10 days, she was showing signs, now she only has a little mammory development. I would love some advice, her vet is a 15 yr. bulldog vet. Thank you!

did you have a progesterone test done....

prior to the AI's to ensure she had infact ovulated? have you had her thyroid checked? did the vet check the semen to make sure it was viable? there could be many factors as to why she didnt conceive.... it is disappointing but you can always try again in 6months...

Also, she could have resorbed her litter

Your bitch could have been pregnant and resorbed her pups. I've had this happen with my girls and recently with 2 outside bitches bred to my male. Both of these girls were confirmed pregnant by Ultrasound, but then lost their pups. Resorbing pups is fairly common but the reasons why aren't often known.

Re: pregnant female?

The development you see could be a false pregnancy, Bullies are prone to these, or your bitch could have only 1 or 2 pups.
A second Ultrasound is warranted to be sure.

I had a bitch many years ago that 2 Vets said wasn't pregnant, so I believed tham and didn't watch her as closely as I would have if she was pregnant. Short story - she was carrying 1 very large pup, (not a water pup) and went into labor while I was at work on a Saturday evening. I couldn't find a qualified Vet to Section her until 4am on Sunday. By that time the pup was dead and I almost lost my bitch. It stressed her so badly she developed a heart murmur and never was bred again. Lots of heartache and money spent, and a superior bitch that never was able to add to the breed.
So the point is: Know for sure if she is pregnant or not.
