Poor Baby

Diesels eye is very swollen and there is a red circle around it- I have cleaned it with a warm compress and gave him benadryl- i am so tight on money I would hate to take him to the vet if it is something i can treat at home, but I would also hate to have him suffering- has anyone seen anything like this with their bullies. I have VPI pet insurance so taking him to the vet is an option- jsut wanted to check first!

Sounds like an infection

If so, he needs antibiotics.

a few ideas...............

sounds like maybe he got bitten by something.. do you think?

you can try to put a cold tea bag on it..... they really help to drain the poison of the bite out and also to reduce the swelling. I had to use the tea bag myself one time......I had a really bad reaction to the tape they used to do my eye brows. the tea bags work.

just a thought
if it does not get better..you might have to take him in and see the vet

PS>

if this is the medication of choice from your vet, its cheaper to buy it at your local pharmacy (with a Rx) that it might be from the vet's office...something to ask about if money is tight.

I think he needs ophthalmic medication.

While warm compresses can help, it sounds like he needs antibiotics to overcome the infection. Be careful when you are using compresses to not transfer any localized problem from one eye to the other. Maybe some Neo-Poly-Dex will fix him up (human equivalent is Maxitrol ointment).
