Maizy has had a swollen eye for a couple weeks. She has been to two different vets. They have ruled out a scratched eye and they were told that her "third eyelid is inflammed" She been on an eye ointment (cant remember the name) but whatever it is hasnt helped. The eye itself looks ok, but her eye in the outside is pink, and it look as if she isnt able to open it. Any suggestions?????
they went to another vet who said it was a ingrown eyelash that
will see if this helps her.
In case its related to a stye (malfunctioning mybomian gland)
I would also suggest some warm compresses held over that lower eyelid 3-4 times a day (be sure the cloth is warm but not too hot...don't want to burn him, but the warmth is needed to relax/open any plugged lash follicles/gland opening. It can't hurt and may help, in addition to the medication.
Thanks so much for your help!
Absolutely could be demodex at that age...
has she had a rabies shot recently? Sometimes the stress of teething, rehoming and vaccinations lower their immune systems and demodex shows up. Take her to the vet and ask for a skin scraping. If it is demodex, they will be able to see it through a microscope. It definitely needs to be treated. My first bully had it around his eye like that.
Kathy, Ollie and Chester
She is 5 months old. Do you think thats what it could be?

Doxepin is by prescription...
It acts as an antihistamine... I have had better luck with it than any other allergy med... It is also cheap on the Walgreens prescription plan for a 90 day supply is costs 11.00

I agree...
She needs an antiobiotic cream for her eye... and maybe something for allergies? I used Doxepin and it works GREAT for allergy irritated eye lids.

It looks like an infection
I think she needs oral antibiotics as well as the ointment.
