Hi,
I have had Bella a month now, Got her when she was 8 months. She loves her crate but everytime she goes in it she pee's in it. At first it started at night when she was sleeping but now it is everytime she goes in. Today I left for 5 mins came back and she had peed. I know she didn't have to because she had just gone outside. And it's not a little bit it's a full pee. She has two crates a small and large one and she does it in both.. What can it be and how do I go about changing this habit. I don't know what her first 8 months were like but she came from a very well known breeder so I know she was well taken care of.
Any ideas would be great.
Thank you..
I think you may be right.. The idea of taking her bedding out is a good one. I think I will try that and see what happens..
I will let you all know.
No Never!! And a update..
I don't say or do anything. I put washable pee pads in there with her so I just take it out wipe down the pan of the crate and put a new pad in.
BTW.. She had a dry night last night
What do you thing it can be?? Any Ideas??
Sounds like marking
and I have found it is pretty normal behavior, especially when you have multiple dogs. Mine all have done it and some grow out of it and some don't.
MacKenzie (my angel) will even pee on Esters crate pad on a very rare occasion. If I catch them marking they do get scolded.
I find the girls are the worst. Cleo is 4 and still pee pees in her crate AND she will pee pee on her brothers bed. Not always but enough to make it real annoying.
Ester is the same only lately she is doing very good.
I have also found that the girls seem to be worse prior to their heat and during their heat. Maybe due to their wacked out hormones.
Either case I feel your pain and some grow out of it and some don't.
You can always take the bedding away for a couple of weeks (then give it back) and I've seen that solve the problem. If they start peeing on the bed again take it away again for a week or so.
What is your reaction to finding the wet crate?
Do you just clean it up, or do you scold her? I wouldn't scold a youngster who didn't understand or couldn't hold its urine output but if she's doing it to mark and apparently has other options for urination I would scold her! Especially when the puddle is still warm!!
Maybe..
There are 3 another dogs besides her so that might be it. I'm glad she does it in her crate and not the rug. Knock on wood! I do hope she grows out of it. I'm doing a load of her pee pee things a day.
she may be claiming it
as hers. My pup peed on every dog bed/blanket for a while. Thankfully she has stopped that now but MAN it was annoying.
