oh no! kibby just swallowed a whole fried chicken wing!!

Dear all,

Kibby just stole a fried chicken wing (wing+ wing tip) from my 2 year old nephew who was walking around holding it ! At least I saw her chew it for about 5-6 seconds before swallowing it, I ran across the room, but she swallowed before I could get it out of her mouth... but knowing kibby , she probably didn't break it up too much since her she usually just swallows her food. She is a small framed bully, girl, 5years old, about 50 lbs.

I gave her about 2 tablespoons of white rice after (she just already dinner- half cup kibble w/2 tablespoons wet food) this happened. Then another relative gave her 2 inches of banana because they said they read somewhere that it would help her poo!

So far she seems normal, I hope she throws it up... but I am really worried...

should i feed her only white rice/chicken (or is ground beef/rice better?) until i feel the bones come out in her poo? Can she actually digest the bones, or should I squeeze her poo around after I pick it up to feel the bones, and then CSI the peices back together to make sure its all out of her? white rice does make her a little constipated, so i am worried, i won't be able to tell the difference if that bone starts blocking her poo.

does anyone have any other suggestions to make this chicken wing come out of her sooner...this happened about an hour ago, should i make her throw up? she usually poos once a day now, so if she doesn't poo by tmrw, should I take her to the vet?

thank you, she pooed again but...

thank you very much, kibby did go poo again in the late afternoon, and this time it was a more solid poo... i was only able to feel a small bone, like the joint of the one of the wing bones, it was the size of a the tip of a q tip, but still a little worried because that was all that I could feel while squeezing the poo (thru the poop bag!). Also worried because there was one kinda sharp end on the peice that I did find.

I did cut down her kibble, gave her 3/4 slice bread (is white ok?) w/olive oil/ for lunch and dinner... she loves it. I even took the wet food and smeared it on top too. I will report back after her morning poo. I hope the rest of it comes out!

Kibby is acting normal, happy, maybe even more happy because she thinks she is getting so many treats!! Thank you again for your help! I really appreciate it... happy.gif

You can give her

Some sliced white bread soaked in oil. I usually tear up 4-5 pieces into quarters and drizzle oil (olive oil may be more palatable, but veggie oil will work) all over. The idea is that the bread will surround the bone, and the oil will help her poop.
I would just watch her. Do NOT induce vomiting.

I usually...

Give the bread oil combo twice and cut back the kibble to half. Then, I put oil on the kibble (I soak my kibble for 1/2 hour with warm water, then add oil)- regular amount of kibble. She should poop it out within a day or so.

she pooed but...

kibby pooed this morning, her normal kinda soft poo ( she is on a new food )... no signs of bones though. should i still feed her the bread until i see or feel some bones? do i combine this with her regular meals?

I would just keep an eye on her...

signs of blockage are vomiting, listlessness and no appetite. Hopefully it won't be a problem, I know my son's lab has eaten chicken bones and a lot worse and is still here. I would use bread rather than rice though if there's a next time.
