Oh boy, I have a problem :(

O.K., here it goes, yesterday I adopted a boy Schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle mix) from the shelter. He is 7 months old and very calm. The thing is that Jade is in heat and of course she has been acting too excited around him. I have kept them separated and have not interact because of her being in heat right now and because I want "Bruno" to settle and feel more comfortable.

The problem is that Jade went pee pee in her crate this morning and it had a very strong odor...yuk! She has been in heat before and I don't remember her pee pee being that stinky. She has been peeing all around the yard and she usually pees only in "her spot". Just a few minutes ago she peed in her crate again, what is going on? Is this because she is leaving her scent for him? (he was neutered yesterday) or could this be something else and Bruno being here is just a coincidence? Please help me, I guess I should have asked before bringing Bruno home. What can I do?

Thank you very much in advance for your input, it is truly appreciate it.

Where can I get those, Elgene?

I will take a sample in a container tomorrow and see what the vet says but those strips can become handy for her next heats. Thank you happy.gif

my vet up here in North County

will do a urine test as long as the urine is in a clean non contaminated container. I also have some home test strips if you want to test her at home while in season.

Diana, I'm sure under the circumstances that...

you can just catch a sample and take it in, leaving Jade at home. My vets would always check a sample without the dog being there. Just make sure to use a clean contain, tupperware or something disposable.

Than you so much Kim and Ela1ne

I'm afraid of bringing Jade to the vet as these are the days when she is "ready". Can I just bring an urine sample? Gosh, these are probably dumb questions but I have never experienced anything like this before.

Yes, I'd have urine sample checked for UTI, but also

need to remind you to keep him away from her because even tho he was just neutered, he can have hormones in his system for several weeks and he will possibly try to mount her, even with no apparatus to emit sperm...and this could involve fighting...not a good start to a relationship between them.

Is she drinking enough water...very concentrated urine can have a stronger odor...also some discharge mixed in with the urine can be causing some odor, but the increased frequency of urination together with the odor warrants a vet check. sad.gif

Could be a UTI

I'd have her checked for a UTI. Could explain peeing in her crate and the odor.

Good luck!

Forgot to add...

There is no bedding on Jade's crate, just the plastic pan.

these are for urine

and the address is www.thepetcheckup.com

I wanted to keep them handy just becuse of all we hear and if I wanted to do a quick check on either of their urine I would be able to do it. Chester had a slight infection and the test strips picked it up then I followed up at the vets.
