Not producing enough breast milk?

Home with 8 2 day old little ones and momma is just not making enough milk. Pups are ranging from 1 lb to 11.5 oz. Doc sent me home with 3 syringes of oxytocin (.5 ml). Q: is there a maximum limit to give oxytocin? ie: everyday for a week.

Momma though spends a lot of time just looking and grabing at them but not sure what to do with them. Looks like bottle feeding for awhile.

Loooong night in the pantry/laundry room. Can't understand why the home builder didn't put a window
in here.

CONGRATS--hard work pays off

it took hersh about 9 days to realize that the pups were hers and begin to clean and potty them..up to that point, that was my job...i LOVED every minute of it....

That's great

Just like humans, colostrum is produced before the milk comes in. Colostrum is very important and full of antibodies.

As far as her getting it now, her hormones have probably kicked in.

Remember to give the mama lots of fluids and food to keep milk production up.
Good Luck to you and your babies!

Follow up on Shiloh....

Wow! Day 3 and the flood gates opened. Milk everywhere!

Something also took place, Momma finally knows what there for and also learned how to clean and stimulate the puppies to urinate and poo. Bottle feeding and cleaning up is what I was doing in front of her all the time. (can I take credit?)

Grandpa is very Happy today.

the more they nurse the more milk that will come in

lay momma down and put the puppies on her, she will get use to the puppies the more they are with her and nursing, let her sniff and lick the puppies. NEVER UNSUPERVISED

Also, it's really important to get the Mama

to eat and drink often. Everytime after Carm would nurse during the day, i would feed her. I had to get creative and offer lots of variety, also I made sure to give her at least one dairy daily i.e. Cottege chhese, yogurt. Vanilla Ensures were a life saver. feeding the Mama was half the work but it kept milk production up.

So have the pups nurse often and offer the mama lots of liquids and food!!

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS...we only had 2 puppies

but i had to force hershey down to nurse..milk came full on about a week after she delivered....stay focused on the job...DO NOT GIVE UP....

Thank you!

I'll send pics when I shrink them.
