Nose Rope question?

copied from general forum:
Audrey was having problems with her face being very stained reddish brown, it smelled bad, she was scratching it constantly and licking her paws, and she developed a very stubborn yeast ear infection. We stopped using Ange's Eyes because I was not comfortable with long term antibiotics(it worked VERY well for the discoloration and the smell, but not at all for the itching and she developed the ear infection while on it)We switched her to grain free, now she's on a raw diet, and the itching and paw licking stopped, and her ears cleared up(most likely due to the meds and not the diet change, we're hoping the switch keeps them clear)We also started her on bottled water, just a few days ago. My question is: Her face is still really stained, but it doesn't smell anymore it's just discolored. And her nose rope gets FILTHY gooky dirty underneath it, which it didn't do before. If it doesn't smell does that mean it's not yeast related? What could be causing her nose rope to get so gooky dirty all of a sudden?

kibby has that too...

kibby is a white bully, so she gets this black gunk underneath her nose rope and sometime some other brown gunk in between a couple of her wrinkles... i have tried everything to analyze what makes this happen and what doesn't... its impossible.. weather, food , dirt, i dont know..

but from looking closely at it, it almost appears as if it is dead skin that gets dry and scabby and then breaks off and collects in her wrinkles... so i figure just as long as it is "dry" then its ok, i often brush it out with a dry towel, then clean with wet, then dry again.. i do this every few days or once a week, otherwise her face will get to irritated so i figure if its not bothering her, maybe its just the way she is.

Mine has a similiar Roll

Mine has a similiar Roll and It's always red underneath it, but it does not smell etc.

I just assume that is how it will always be as a result of her face etc. I just try to keep it clean in there, and look at it as part of her character.. I wish it would go away but not banking on it.

I have a black bully, so the face actually wouldn't show it if was dirt, it's more a redness of the fur itself oddly.

My Bells has a nose rope like hers too.

I think it depends on the weather, ie:  heat vs cool, also if they play alot outside.  She sweat under there so I always use baby wipes every couple of days just to check her out.  then dry it with a paper towel.
