I rescued an older female Chocolate Lab a while back. My dad in Colorado wanted her so a little after Thanksgiving I took her to him. She has been fine mostly. She recently had an infected anal gland but beyond that nothing has been wrong. She does drink a lot of water and has since the day I found her. She also just went into heat but is already going out again (he was going to have her spayed but the vets were booked until recently, at least his vet was, and she went into heat before he could get her done). She is peeing fine outdoors, and when my dad is home she can and does hold her urine between walks. When my dad goes to work though, she pees on the floor before he gets back home. He even came home on his break today to let her out and she peed on the floor again between that time and three hours later when he came home from work. Is she doing this because she doesn't like him gone? She was on 10 days of oral antibiotics for her anal gland, so I doubt it is a UTI or Bladder infection. But I guess it could be?
He was thinking about pee pads. I told him that would be a good solution, but he doesn't want to do that for very long. He wants a permanent solution, I can't blame him, but what should I tell him to do? Any thoughts or ideas would help. He has a very small space he lives in and I don't know how well a crate would work....
Thanks guys:-)

Hey, Ames
Yep - Kano peed a lot when she was in heat, but I would also see if he could get a urine speciman to the vet to rule out a UTI. Of course, there will probably be blood in the sample, but they could check for bacteria. Because of the infected anal gland, the swelling that occurs of the vulva when in heat, the way females squat...etc, I would have it checked.

Thanks for that answer! I appreciate it Gary:-)
I will tell my dad and let him deal with it:-)

When Clovis goes into heat, she pees MUCH more frequently
so I suspect that is the problem. Once she is spayed, that should stop. Good luck.
