I have a puppy born today that seems to have a blocked urethra. She will poop but not pee. She has some fluid around her belly. The pups were a little early. Day 58. She weighed 14 oz. I also noticed a thin black line from her umbilical to her vulva. Any ideas? I'm lost on this one. I have a call in to 2 vets. Thank you!
this could be signs of spinal bifida
do you feel a dimple in her back?

You might try putting her in a ziplock bag (just the legs up to the arm pits) and putting her legs and butt in some warm water. Dont put her in the water, dont want her to get chilled.

Re: Is She nursing?
She has xtra fluid abound her belly. You can see it below her umbilical it's shiny and semi squishy. She is now not wanting to eat that well. Her color is ok but not great. The other pups are peeing alot and this one will not when stimulated. I'm not sure she is going to make it.
Re: Is She nursing?
My point is/was if she can not pee she can not continue to eat.
Because you don't see her peeing does not mean she isn't.
What do you mean she has a lot of fluid around her?
Re: Is She nursing?
The vets say that there is nothing they can do. We think the tube from the kidneys to the urethra is underdeveloped or she might have a blockage. She is nursing fine. We have her seperated in the isolete on white towels so we could see if she goes. I did get her to pee about 2 drops an hour ago. She has alot of fluid around her. I put her on abx. I have never seen this before.
Is She nursing?
If she actually is unable to pee she will stop eating. If she is eating normally she really is peeing (and pooing) it's just that you're not seeing it. Certainly not impossible, but I've not heard of a blocked urethra in wee pups.
Best of luck. You're doing the right thing by calling your Vet(s).
Sounds like something that needs a doc.
