I am a new owner of a 5mth old Bulldog named Cooper. I have done alot of research on their specific needs but have found different opinions on what to feed them etc. My current vet told me he should stay on puppy food until about a year. He seems to be doing well with it I have been feeding Eukanuba puppy food 2 times a day with a tablespoon of cottage cheese in it and he seems to love it, My question is should I keep him on it for a whole year.? He currently weighs 33lbs and my vet says he is not overweight. Anyones opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Iams & Eukanuba sold to P&G
Iams used to be a high quality product until they were sold to Proctor & Gamble. Since then the bean counters got a hold of it, they changed their formulas and the quality declined but the price didn't. They use left over chicken frames after they've cooked all the nutrients out making soup and broth. Nutrition and palatability suffered from these changes. I feed Innova adult. My Bully is 4 yrs. old. She's not gassy at all, her poop is small and firm.

I agree with six months as for type or kind ...
as the other poster mentioned, whatever works. Eukanuba has made some changes over the last few years and makes a pretty good food. If its working don't change it. As the saying goes if it ain't broke, dont fix it.
I have tried many as my dog is allergic to lots but Natures Balance potatoe and duck is working right now...fingers crossed.
Welcome to the board, pls post a pic or two if you like so we can see your wonderful baby.

Royal Canin Bulldog
I was excited to try the Royal Canin for Bulldog dry food with its special kibble shape and tailor made formula for the bulldog. Unfortunately, the food did not work for my adult male. He loved the taste but got a large hot spot within the first week-10 days. It seems that some foods work well for some bulldogs and REALLY don't work for others. There are allergy reactions such as ear infections, hot spots and GAS! I am currently using the Taste of The Wild-Pacific Stream formula and it seems to be working well. It is grain free. Like all products, it pays to shop around. One retail store in my area sold it for $48 for the large bag where another charges $37 for the same product.

my experience with Eukanuba
Our Cooper is 6 month intact male who came to us on Euk. He was not holding his urine very long, was going about every hour. I took him to vet and urine was full of crystals. Vet said they see this all the time with Euk. We took him off immediately and put him on Natural Balance Sweet Potatoe and Fish and he loves it! 4 weeks later, no crystals!!
Good luck with Cooper! My Emma is due with first litter any day!
Love our bullies!

I like Natural Balance
Mine are on the Fish and Potato. I fed Eukanuba with my first bulldog until she started having head shakes. I changed foods and she has never had another head shake. I would say 6 months is a good time to neuter.

what brands is a good quality?
My vet thought that I may want to try the Royal canine for bulldogs? Would you recommend that brand and should I switch now? Is the cottage cheese ok? Also wondered about neutering I heard it is better to wait closer to a year for males?? Does that sound right? Thanks for the help!!!!

No ... 1 year on puppy
food is too long. Switch to adult food before 6 months. The protein is too high for a bulldog and you can have bone growth problems. Many vets are not well educated in nutrition especially with Bulldogs.
Personally I don't thing Eukanuba is a very good quality food....BUT if it works then feed it. you really have to just use whatever is working.
I feed Eukanuba to Norbert for the 1st 5 years of his life and he did just fine on it with the exception of 1 ear that would get yeasty.
