kibby and gabbys labwork came back and ...
kibby just has a regular uti, no stones or crystals.. on the antibiotics and appears better already
Gabby, had her bloodwork done so she can be cleared to get her teeth cleaned, since she is so old. It came back ok for the teethcleaning but it turns out that she has a thyroid issue. My husband picked up the meds and didnt ask the all the ?'s that he should've asked... so I am just curious as to how serious this could be/get .. or what i fed or did wrong with her to make this happen.
I did some research online and gabby is not overweight or lazy at all. but she does have the other symptoms, such as patchy hairloss , especially on trunk of tail, itchiness, longer naps, etc.. I thought she was just allergic to something and just getting old.
Anyways, I gave Gabby a pill yesterday for dinner, and she was strung out for at least 2 hours before she could sleep. She seemed anxious and just couldn't get comfortable - so she paced around for a while, until she fell asleep in a strange corner of the house that she never slept at before.
Is this normal? Are these drugs suppose to give more energy? Was she overdosed and just "high"? should i give it in the daytime instead?
How do you feel about the natural dog thyroid supplements? thanks!
thanks, thats what the vet tec said too...
my vet isnt going to be back in until monday, but i guess the vet tech said to try to give it to her in the day time as well. i am actually holding off on it until we get her teeth cleaned on tuesday... i wanted these last couple of days prior to be as stress free as possible for her first.
the vet tech didnt know about the dosage possibly being too high so i also want to wait on the real vet to ask first. the label says thyro-tab .5 ... and its a small white pill , looks like a big peice of rice, it says 0 then 5 on either side of it.
really? gabby is only 53 pounds...
and they told us to give one of these pills a day... i will be bringing her in tmrw for her teethcleaning and discuss it with the vet then...
she is going to be so sad... last meal is at 830pm, and we have to drop her off at 830am, she usually eats at 1030pm and again at 6am, to prevent her from puking bile - do you think this will be an issue for the teeth cleaning?
thanks.. i will be sure to ask and mention..
all of this to the vet. i fed gabby a big dinner at 815, so i hope it will satisfy her until she can eat again.... thanks for everything.. i will post some b4 and after pic tmrw!
If vet is concerned about her vomiting
I mean more than the normal concerns about vomiting phlegm or whatever upon awakening from anesthesia, he could give her an injection of Reglan, which is an anti-emetic...but if his staff is diligent it may not be needed.
That may be on the high end of dosing.
I won't presume to override your vet. The dog I had on Soloxine was getting 0.4mg and he was about 60+ pounds. Maybe that was all he needed?!!
I would recommend giving in daytime, and
yes it can energize the dog but shouldn't make her hyper. There may need to be some adjustment to the dosing also, so after 2wks and she seems steady on the current dose...what is it???...you might ask about buying it online with a written Rx from the vet, in bottles of 100 or more since she will be on this forever.
thanks, i called the vet
and they said to try to give it to her in the daytime instead... let see what happens.. thanks
thyroid
first it was nothing you did or didnt do...it is not really understood....but i would question the panel...did they send out to jean dodd...that lab looks at blood pulls from only bulldogs...or what ever breed you have rather than the general population....
no the pill should not make her wired...yes it should make her feel better,,,,a little more active...i would call the vet if you give it to her again and she acts this way.....
i have a reg holistic vet and did use holistic approach to a rescue husky....he was 11 yo...it helped him alot...but i would only do this under a vet supervision...
