My daughter just lost her not quite 2 year old bully. They did a necropsy and told her it was due to a narrow trachea and built up phlegm. She has always been a heavy breather but nice and active. Was there anything a vet could have done for her so this wouldn't have happened? We are greif stricken over this and she is beating herself up over it thinking she should have known that something was wrong. She wasn't eating well during the last week but never would have suspected she would die. Just curious if anyone has dealt with this before.
Thanks
The lemon juice squirt to the back of the throat is
meant to 'break up' a wad of phlegm or mucous when the dog is gagging...its a temporary 'fix' but not a cure that would prevent it happening again. Repeating, sorry that this young dog died before he had time to enjoy much of life.
Makes me wonder
why the lemon juice thing isn't known by all vets. I honestly have never heard of it. Knew I should have asked the board instead of a vet. I don't think we have a good bulldog vet in upstate New York.
Thanks
It will help her some to know there was nothing she could have done. There is so much in the breed I don't know.
so sorry for your lost.....ofa...
it now doing a study on hypolastic tracheas.....many breeders are now trying to eliminate it from their lines.....
wilson has it and i need to keep a close eye on him....lemon juice works good and so does clear soda....but sorry to hear at only two you lost your puppy....
Thanks
I' m very sorry for her loss
My understanding is that there is nothing that can be done for a narrow trachea. The dog is born with this condition and survival is dependant on severity. Even if your daughter had known about it earlier, there wouldn't have been a whole lot she could have done.
Again, I'm very sorry for her loss.

you are correct Olivia.. so heartbreaking Roanne.. please
know my thoughts are with all of you.. this is so hard. I actually went through this with one of our fist bullies that I got before I knew anything .. she came from an importer.
