Myas Scratching At her Teets??

Mya just had her first visible heat last month at 11 months old, and obviously the teets?teats? swolled up and are now enlarged etc. but she keeps scratching at them with her hind legs and its getting irratated a little bit and since its winter time her skin is a little dryer. What would you reccomend? I started putting some aveeno no scent etc lotion on the areas today..

Anyone else have this happen?

There is now

triple antibiotic ointment that has pain control. Wonder if it would stop the itching. Eucerin puts out a moisturizer w/ anti itch properties. I used that after I broke my arm btwn elbow and shoulder and had all those different slings, wraps and other things on the are....it helped w/ itching and kept skin moisturized. Might want to help her out by giving her a little benedryl when you can't be around to stop her from hurting her tummy. Can also sort of strap a sock to hind legs...tape above foot and then again above hock joint....stays on better that way and white socks keep it cleaner and dull the nails a bit so she won't get so scratched up.

I'm not sure

I'd give benadryl twice a day. Sometimes you have to physically stop them from itching. Otherwise it kind of becomes a cycle. The more they itch, the more irratated and itchy they become.

how long?

I'll give her a benadryl, I tell her to stop but she doesn't listen.. You know how the bullies can be. They do what they want. Haha. How long did it take for it to subside fully and heal? 2-3 weeks?

LOL Sorry :(

My bad. I figured it was cause she wasn't used to being a woman. She isn't pregnant this time around! But you can see the difference in her physically, my little girl is grown up. I'm going to just use some neosporin and aveeno on her, and maybe get her some aveeno baby wash to wash her in. The regular puppy and dog shampoo may still be too much. The aveeno baby wash doesn't have soap etc. Her nipples are getting bigger and I guess it's itching her, even though she's past the bleeding and actual heat stage.

Poor girl

They itch because the skin is being stretched. Ask any woman who has children how itchy their belly was when they were pregnant.

Carm itched her belly like Mya is doing after she had her babies. We gave her some bendryl and rubbed dysatin on her tum. Also we would stop her when we saw her scrathing her belly. Carm's skin got really irrated but is all good now.

I hope Mya gets some relief soon
