My limping bully, I'm worried...

Last night we picked Burger up from a day at Bully Daycare (most of the dogs there are Bulldogs). He ran up to me happy to see me and get some love. Then we walked out heading to the car and he began to limp on his front right leg. So I call back to the daycare and ask if the dogs were rough today since Burger is now limping and the attendent (who loves Burg by the way) said it was his normal day, nothing unusual. We went on home, he ate and went to sleep. I tried looking at his paw and it didnt look odd. But 3hrs later, it was swollen and he didnt want me to bother it.

Any suggestions? Today he has been in his bed ALL DAY LONG and he wont leave out to pee/poop or eat - so I'm pretty worried right now.

His paw just looked kinda dirty and had reddish stuff between his toes (it's been kinda rainy here in Chicago). I tried seeing if there was a cut or something but I didnt see anything.

Try a Epsom Salts soak.

I know he may not want to do this, but if you put about 3inches of water in your tub (enough to cover the paw pad) and add 1 cup of Epsom Salts, try to get him to stand in this tub for about 10mins, even if you need to continue to pet him and offer his dinner, one bite of kibble at a time (suggestion). When he comes out, gently and carefully dry that paw with a towel, and hopefully getting him to lie down you will be able to examine the underside also. If its an IDC (infection between the toes) it will usually appear as a "lump" and sometimes its very red, other times its only pink, but the soak will allow you to gently pull out any loose hairs/stone/sand/etc. trapped beneath or between the toes. Again, if its an IDC you may want to apply some medication to the bump and there are several choices here (people have their favorites) of using a small amount applied so it hopefully is absorbed and not enough to have the dog licking off a glob of stuff. Choices: Animax (antibiotic), Neosporin (with cortisone?), Prep H (shrinks it & may help with swelling as well)or other antibiotic ointment/cream such as Betadine, etc. If this helps...but doesn't totally correct the problem, then do the soak again next evening and a couple more times during the week. If no improvement, and he is still reluctant to put weight on that leg/paw, then make a vet appointment. AND look up IDC's on the HEALTH INFO on the Home Page of this website...lots of good info there. happy.gif

limping on the front

He could have stepped wrong and sprained the front leg, or stepped on a stone and his pad is sore. I would try to just keep him quiet for a couple of days and see what happens. If he does not seem to improve then I would take him and have them x ray the leg. sometimes when they are out walking they can be fine one minute, step wrong the next and be limping, but after a couple of days of rest they will be fine. If he was playing hard with the other bully's, again, he could have sprained / strained the leg just as you or I could. I would not worry too much at this moment unless he seems to get worse. Hopefully after he rests you will see an improvement.
