this is so gross...macks breath has been really bad for a while and i have not been able to figure it out. i have been really good about cleaning the hairs from between his teeth and gums and yesterday while doing that i noticed that he has tons of hairs stuck in the gum folds on the roof of his mouth. i tried to wipe them out, but they are stuck in there. i took his toothbrush and tried to brush them out, not much success that way either(this caused a little bleeding)i even tried tweezers. what is the best way to thoroughly clean these stinky hairs out with out hurting him?
use a flat stiff eyeshadow/liner make-up brush.
works great!
I don't rescue animals because I want to feel better about myself, or morally superior to anyone. The best part of my life with animals is the humility they teach and the humanity the foster.

Do you have access to a dental waterpik or similar?
You'd have to have the dog on the floor on his side so that the waterjet doesn't go down his throat, but I'm thinking that perhaps the pulsing water stream would loosen them without the abrasion that the toothbrush is causing? Another thought is one of those dental "picks" with the rubber tip (similar to the end pick on some of the older style toothbrushes we use)...that may be softer than the bristles of a brush, to get into those grooves. Obviously he likes to lick his feet alot!
