I know I posted in the wrong forum earlier about my aunts dog. I just wanted to give ya'll an update....
I have her on:
Osteo-3 (1 scoup a day)
500 MG Cephalexin (2 x a day)
Malaseb (I hunted down the canister from my grandma)
Baytril (2 x a day)
Neo-Poly-Bac (2-3 times a day)
She had her 1st injection of Adequan the other day and is getting another one on Monday
Metacam... i've only given her that for the first day when she got her adequan
Fish oil (2 x a day)
I went out today and bought some artificial tears because she does have dry eye, and I picked up the 500 MG Vitamin C that someone suggested to me
I do have a few questions so... I haven't used those yet.
1) I was wondering how often do I rinse her eyes especially since they're being medicated by the Neo-Poly-Bac. I don't want to wash away the antibiotic.
2)What does the Vitamin C do?
3) unrelated, but related question. I have KetoChlor shampoo, but when I've tried to give her a bath before she tends to get water up her nose... how do you skilled bulldoggers block the eyes and nose? She is discolored her white to a red shade from the yeast problem on her face. It's moved to the white on her paws/arm from her rubbing her face for so long.
She is feeling sooo much better even though it has been about 4 days. She no longer takes 6 steps and has to take a break... When we first got her it was hard for her to get moving in the morning and to come out of her crate, but she moved like a bat out of hell the last two days. She's trying to brave a few stairs at a time (I have five to decend to go out and go potty)I brought her to work with me today and she was up and moving for 20 minute before she had to sit down. I'm so proud of her, and I know it will only get better as long as we continue this course of treatment.
Re: Re artificial tears (saline) for the eyes
Thank you so much for all of your help. While at CVS I was looking at the Genteal, but I wasn't sure which to grab!
On a positive note, her eyes are clearing up quite well... One has completely stopped pussing in the last 24 hours and the other is slowing quite a bit.
Re: we like Tears Naturele brand
That is what I bought before, but i ended up taking it back and getting just the saline. I didn't want to mess up! I'll remember this next time! I told my aunt if she takes mable back not to worry about her supplies, that I'll get them for her as long as she keeps her up.
Re: Just a thought
I'm thinking about making a temporary one for her from things out of the house. I don't mean to sound cold hearted, but I don't have the funds to purchase one right now... and I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to keep her quite yet.
Just a thought
Perhaps placing a plank ramp, down the stairs would help to lessen the shock on her joints as she desends and climbs the stairs. We use one for ours when we go to shows and take them in the RV. www.dogramp.com (believe it or not).
Perserverance isn't a long race.
It's a series of short races,
ran one after the other.

Re artificial tears (saline) for the eyes
First of all, get the artificial tears that don't have any "gets the red out" factor or are NOT designated for allergy treatment and you CAN use one drop on a dry eye BEFORE you apply the Rx eye medication if the eye seems dry and you want the medication to dispurse across the globe (but not run out). Wiping the eye with anything like TP or swab, etc. should always be followed by one drop of artificial tears, as you are taking out moisture albeit not diluted enough to be comfortable for the dog's eye (the goop). I always recommend finishing any eye cleaning with one more fresh drop. I like brands like GenTeal or Refresh (Costco).
As for drops after medication applied, the vet ophthalmolgist specialist I worked for said to wait about 15+ mins before applying tears after medication, to allow for good absorption of the Rx...and you can use artificial tears basically anytime during the day or evening, not limited to 2xday or 3xday...use as needed, with above guideline re diluting the medication. Since they are basically replacing a natural body fluid, you cannot 'over-medicate' with saline in the eye...the extra will just run out as tears.
we like Tears Naturele brand
vs Saline
as suggested rinse with saline before you put the vaseline ointment in her eye

Re: It is ok...
Her eyes are no where near as gunky as when i first brought her home. I have been taking a damp peice of TP and wiping her eyes clean before putting in the Neo-poly-bac... I will look at the box before I start to use it, if I picked up the wrong kind I'll exchange it this evening on the way home.
I didn't want to use anything without clearing it with ya'll first!
It is ok...
to use saline (make sure it is plain old saline though) to rinse teh eyes of "boogers" before putting in the neo poly bac. I would do this at least 2 x daily, if not 3x day depending on how her eyes are.
Re: some answers...
The vet did tell me to get saline for her eyes. Another sob story for mable is that she's getting cataracts in her old age. I will start her on her Vitamin C tonight :D I'll pick up some yogurt this evening. I use it regularly for my APBT that is on a Raw diet.
some answers...
vit c is a water soluable vit c and a natural pain reliever....helps boost the immunity system....
also get her on some yougurt....
DO NOT put anything in the eyes but what the vet told you.....do not use any over the counter eye drops unless the vet told you...this is very importtant....
