kibby has an idc , again, but this time

kibby has a reoccurring idc.. i was just curious how often is normal for these to be coming... it seems as though she is getting it in between the same 2 toes, every other month or so. last time, it was prety minor, just swelled up a little and it cleared up within a matter of a week on its one...

this time it , its pretty red, and pretty swollen, and today after a walk, i think something popped because i saw a little blood and clear puss on it...its only been a couple of days... but i am worried that there is really something stuck up in there. Vet time again!

will the vet be able to see if there is anything in there without an xray? just preparing myself for the cost.

Also, i think i noticed a little blood in her urine , again.. uti is back, last time she had was a couple of months ago... should i just bring in the urine again, or let the vet draw from her, since this is her second uti? maybe there is something more wrong?

but do you think that these 2 issues could be related, because last time both idc and uti came at the same time too !?! maybe its something we are feeding her?

man, i love these bullys but when they have problems, it all seems to come at the same time! thanks!

thank you..we have visit scheduled for tmrw morn..

kibbys ears have been much cleaner then they use to be since i switched her to natures variety salmon and brown rice... she didnt do well with the duck and potato, or the chickn/tapioca... then we mix in a little wellness 95% (usually turkey, chicken, or salmon) for flavor...

i dont think my last vet ever told me what cultures or type of bacteria, they just gave me some antibiotics and it cleared up within a week. we did go back and they cleared her... I have been giving cranberry supplements, daily after her last uti, then i slowly weened off to make it 2-3 times a week. She does drink alot of water, because she eats 4 times a day. she does squat low when she pees, but she goes out alot, the dogs are rarely left at home alone for more then 4 hours at a time; we both work mostly from home. she did just start on synflex liquid glucosamine.. i do give her a vitamin c once a week.

thanks for all the advice.. i will update again after i get back from the vet. happy.gif

They COULD possibly be related, especially regarding

her immune system. Is she receiving any immunity boosters such as daily vitamins or a vitamin/glucosamine complex?

Re the urinary tract infection, a couple questions: Did you have her urine rechecked after she completed the last round of antibiotics, and was she 'cleared'? Did your vet ever mention having her urine 'cultured' to see exactly what bacteria she is getting with these infections, so that the best kind of a/b could be prescribed to kill it off? Does your bitch squat low to the ground when she pees? Are you giving any cranberry supplements to help equalize any pH imbalance in her urine? Does she drink enough water (several times a day) and is she asked to hold that urine for a very long time (ie, 8-9hrs while you're at work?) which might be causing bladder irritation?...something to ask vet about.

I know that a food allergy is a common "target" for other health problems with this breed, but if she is having repeat localized infections such as bladder and toes (and possibly ears as well?) then you should take a close look at changing her diet to see if that improves her overall health...the food might be a little more costly but its a whole lot cheaper than vet visits and tests!

Look at a one-protein source, one-grain quality product like a Natural Balance or Natures Recipe, and if that doesn't work, then look at something grain-free.
