Judy, I need to pick your brain some more!

I do not know why I am so daunted about feeding Audrey food I prepare, but for some reason it seems to scare me. I have a few more questions if you don't mind???

Do you grind all your chicken meat, like boneless breasts, or just the stuff that has bones in it?

Do you mix in the organ meats and make one mixture to feed, or keep things separate and feed individual bits of it?

When I asked about the grocery store meat, I was not concerned about the cost because I am paying SO much for Primal right now I know it will be less. I am concerned about the way the chickens are rasied and fed. I know the chicken and turkey farmers have contracts with the meat companies (like Purdue) and they get all their animals and feed for them delivered by the company. They do not have a choice, they have to feed what the company provides, and I know it has anibiotics and hormones in it. I am surrounded by poultry farms and processing plants and have several friends that are poultry farmers. They have to feed certain foods according to the birds stage, I know the last stage food is supposely hormone free. Is it really that big of a deal to feed those chickens to my dog, raw? I am eating the same birds, so I don't know if I am just needlessly worried.

Just gotta tell you all that I am LOVING these posts..

this is all sooooo informative, I've had a lot of the same concerns that others are voicing and I am printing these posts for my "raw" folder to keep as reference - yeah, I'm a bit "type A"! LOL

love the idea of feeding raw on the weekends....what a great way to start, I have the Nature's Variety patties right now (chicken) but where I take private obedience lessons, that girl is a distributor for Nu Dimensions Raw & Healthy Pet Products, so I maybe able to get premade a tad cheaper

ok this i what i do.....

i make up one lb batches of just meat....and i make up one lb batches of different organs...i like to grind different organs together chicken & beef heart...calf liver...
so i have a pound of meat separate and a pound of organs...and then i mix them together as needed...a pound of ground up organs is going to last me...a while your only adding 10% organs in....i like to give them lamb rib bones....pigs feet....lamb legs for their bone content,,,separte..dont worry if its exact....more than 10% organs may give loose stools ok cut back....to much bone their poop is going to come out white...cut back...
if i were you....i would start raw...on the weekends....only sat and sun this is what were going to do....for a month or so....then another day....so your doing it three days a week cutting back on the primal...but still feeling ok..about what you are doing...and then as you get more and more confident...less primal more of your own.....
i grind chicken bone....i use alot of chicken breast only becasue i give a different source of bone...such as the lamb ribs ect....
i do cut up my chicken breast......because i dont like the googy mess around their feet and face its just a cleaner way to feed but thats me....
just make sure...your meat has no addivtives like sodium...most ingredients are on tha pkg....
hope this helped a little....
