Itchy eye?

Abby has had a ??? Itchy Eye for about two weeks now... Its not red its not swollen it not dry as it tears but no more than norm she has very deep wrinkles under her eyes but they are clean and not infected or irritated no cherry eye but she rubs that eye alot! both with her paw and on her bed my bed and the carpet one night around christmas it seems MAYBE a bit swollen so I have her one benedryl tablet it seemed to help and has not been swollen at all! since My first thought because it started at that time is that she might have been bite by something. Any suggestions or should I take to the vet? We have No food changes or detergent or fabric sofen changes nothing...... and one more thing Should I do benedryl for a couple days? I only gave her 25mg even though she weighs close to 50 pounds I wanted to start out low and I was going to give her more IF it didnt help.

Thanks
Dawn and Abby

Eyes are so delicate that its difficult to see her problem

and if its not something you can easily see as 'abnormal' then I agree she needs a vet exam. It could be something as simple as a mld distichia (hairs growing inward, rubbing her eye) or it could be several other things...but have her checked. I wouldn't increase Benadryl because as an antihistamine it will dry body fluids and that includes drying some tear expression...so why possibly increase irritation in her eye by decreasing tears!

go to te vet....

and have them stain te eye...charlie started out with a itchy swollen eye...i did the same as you...but after two days i took him to the vet it was an ulcer...and a bad one....so i would get it stained asap....with eyes it is always better to err on the side of caution.....

have you had a vet check her eye

for entoopian or distichiasis? Both can cause them to rub thier eyes.
