OK well I know that dogs do not see the same colours as us..but why do they perfer RED.
this is really weird but I just ordered 3 jolly balls for Bella and they all came in. both companies had a hard time getting red..it is the preferred colour in dogs and esepcially in horses too. I could get hundreds of the horse balls in every colour but red were few and far between.
I do not know much about dogs eyes and vision. but I thought that they could not really distinct colours. am I wrong on this??
even..the kongs are usually red too..
weird..
but guess I will stick to red myself for them
they seem to like it best
it is very interesting..and here.......
I have 2 teaser balls..the same size..one is purple and one red..
only the red gets used at all
red kong..same thing. never touch the black one
red kong ball the same....
hmmm
well good thing I could get all red jolly balls for Bella
but find it odd
they would be an off brown colour is right..
interesting..cute..but gotta wander..
I just got a call they are all in for Bella.
3 red jolly balls..
but like they said, they are hard to come by
all other colours under the rainbow but RED
I would think that the blue one would be better for them to see
but apparently it is not the preferred colour
interesting article though on the vision in dogs..
red everything here too
nothing but red from now on..
a waste the purple teaser ball for sure..
hard to believe though the exact same ball and such too
if it was just one of the dogs..I could see but all 5 are the same..red only
same here. mine loves red
one time he lost his red ball under the tv stand and I was lazy to get it for him, so i gave the exact same one but in blue and one was green, he would not want it but would lie there crying until I have to get it for him.
Another incident was one of those squeker ball, that looks the same, but one has a shape of boots and the others were short stubs that resemble feet and believe it or not, he would not play with the ball that has the boot feet. So when I buy toys, all i buy is red, i dont' bother to buy the other colors because he won't be touch it.
that's really interesting
if dogs don't see 'red' as we see red, but to them it's grayish-brown, I wonder why they prefer that to blue, which they apparantely can see pretty much as we see blue? Maybe the brown is just more pleasing to them. I used to wonder why Audrey would have a hard time finding her bright orange with a blue stripe ball when it landed in taller grass, to me it was so obviously visible, but to her it was perfectly camoflauged!
Cathy
when she first came home
well, my car is red
and Mr. Higgins loves to go in it. It just makes his day. If it is parked in the parking lot where I live, not necessarily in front of my place, he goes right for it, every time when we walk by on a walk. I have been wondering about that.
here is a link to veterinary vision...well done and worth the re

acoording to the article it sounds like the red colour would be hard for any dog to distinquish from Green..
same as colour blindness in people it sounds..
but more to the grey colours
