I am at my wit's end with Wiggles back (pics)

Back in November, Wiggles suddenly became very itchy. She would stand under the hedge and rub until she rub a sore spot on her head and butt. I took her to the vet and she gave me some meds. Well she isn't itchy anymore but now her back has just turned into bump city. I have been giving her Calm Coat and bathing her with the shampoo. For some reason these bumps will not clear up. I have also switched her to NB Organic hoping that helps. Any suggestions from anyone???

My Bully had the same issue many years ago, he was diagnosed with mange, did they do a skin scraping?

My Reuben had this

I thought it was mange, but the Vet called it a heat rash, it was in July but he is in air all the time. He put him on Cephalexin and Pyoben shampoo, it took a good month or more till it went away.hth

Are the bumps black and have a crusty feel to them?

if so, Boo periodically gets those. Keflex always makes them go away.

it looks like staph

bubba use to look like this. his vacinations will trigger it now. he had several bouts of it when i first got him. he has to go on 6 weeks of antibiotics to get rid of it. i had his blood tested for allergies. he is allergic to beef, turkey and lamb, peanuts. we also found out he was hypothyroid.

he is much better but still has bouts of it. usually spring and when he gets his shots.

Does the bumps burst in a few days and makes the fur into

Clumps then dry and falls off then more bumps would appear? On the clumps of fur isn't sort of sticky with pus? My puppy is going thru that vet found mites and said he has demodex. He is on capstar, interceptor(less side effects than ivermectin) and antibiotics zenequin. He had bumps like that but he has a bit more fur but you can still feel it if you run your fingers thru it and you can see the red bumps called pyoderma then in 3-4 days it would burst and you have this yellow milky liquid I think it's pus and then it dries off and the scabs falls off. The medications is working and the bumps are about 80% reduced. I have to take him back for a skin scraping one a month for 3 months until we get 3 negatives but he still has to be on meds for a few more months. I use pyoben shampoo then hexadene shampoo bathing him once a week and it really helps. I use the pyoben shampoo first then rinse and use hexadene shampoo cuz using the pyoben alone makes the skin really dry.

if these bumps just developed, i would take her back to the vet.

maybe she is having an allergic reaction to something the vet gave you? did you feed her anything different lately that may have caused this?

are the bumps oozy or do they appear to be drying up? if oozy, i would go to vet right away.

i agree with stopping the calm coat because its obviously not working... i would leave it alone, keep it clean with just clean warm water and hope it drys up and goes away on its own....i have found that trying everything under the sun sometimes just irritates it more.

but due the size and severity of it, it looks like she is having a bad reaction to something.. topical flea medication? maybe those bushes she was scratching on?

Thanks everyone for your responses, going back to vet

Chelsea has a vet appt. on Saturday so I'm just going to take Wiggles in with me. The sores are not pusy. They are mostly red spots and the hair starts falling out around them. They are bumpy and they do sometimes bleed a little, but only enough to make little red spots on her back. They don't seem to bother her, just won't go away!

Understandable...

rule out medical issues-- THEN..

I would look at the environment and start changing stuff. If her skin is dry and flakey, then I would change her food and shampoo first.

I tried NB fish and NB venison before I figured out the NB duck and potato works best for Junior and Teddy. I tried every food you could name before I discovered Roxy can only eat Hill's i/d or her right ear immediately flairs up with yeast and she has bloody stools. Belle can only eat Canidae or both of her ears get inflamed and close up.

Other things to consider are your fabric softener, detergent, hand lotion, and perfume. If it's only on her back, that sounds like environment. Maybe from petting or rolling on the lawn or carpet?

Things to think about and write down-
When does she seem most itchy? After a meal? At night? In the AM? Is it mostly on her back only? Does she wear a coat or sweater to go out to potty?

What does she eat?
Shampoo brand?
How often do you bathe her? Is she dry? (Like I said, it could be as simple as allergy to her shampoo, but that would be strange if it's only her back)

Have you eliminated snacks, bites, and nibbles of people food (they count!)?
What detergent? (Tide is known to be a problem. Eco's or Dreft are two that I use)
What is her bedding material? (Maybe change it altogether. Buy her a new bed.)
What is your bedding material if she sleeps with you?
Could it be your hand lotion?
Do you use fabric softener? (stop or change it)
What floor cleaner/carpet shampoo?
Are you rinsing off her shampoo with a spray hose? (It's the only way to get all the soap off)

I use Chlorhexiderm Shampoo. It doesn't suds up much, but I use it weekly and my dogs all have nice coats- knock on wood!

Of course these are all things to consider if a medical problem has been ruled out~~
Maybe if you write down and monitor what she eats and comes in contact with, and when, something will stand out.

Good Luck!

I agree, a skin scraping will

tell you if it's staph. Also, I would discontinue the Calm Coat, it isn't working and until you find out what it is, eliminating everything extra will help.

Have you had a skin scraping done?

If you haven't, I suggest that you do. It may be staph or some type of fungal infection. She most likely needs antibiotics.

is this the same.............

Wiggles that was a rescue and had babies unexpectedly? She looks really good, minus the itch spots. Tamsen

Josie has some skin issues.....

i tried meds, food, antibiotics, and finally landed on Natural Balance Chicken and Sweet Potato. Also give her a daily supplement. take a look at my post about Josies Jail pics, she lost her hair from mange, but still had issues after the mange was cleaned up. Tamsen

Doesn't really look like

Demodectic Mange...but...a skin scraping will tell the tale of what it is for sure. Looks like staph that could be secondary to mange.

You will get to the bottom of it and i would love to hear what the final diagnosis is.
