Hello! My 11 week old bullie seems slimmer and not as chunky as when we got him a few weeks ago from the breeder. He eats 2 and a half cups of food a day (California Natural puppy mixed in with all stages Canidae, as per the breeder's regimen). He also has a half hardboiled egg every other day and a teaspoon of yogurt mixed in with his food at each meal. He has a good appetite and is very active. The breeder said he'd slim down after he came to us because he'll be more active running around with the kids but I was curious when a bulldog starts to fill out. He's gotten taller but not wider. Should he still look robust or does an 11 week old get into an ackward stage as they grow taller? He was 11.5 lbs about a week and a half ago. His next checkup is in a few weeks. What kind of weight gain should I expect per week?
Thanks!
I still think you are underfeeding him...
I would be giving at least 3cups a day, plus small housebreaking treats.
Re: I feed 4 cups a day to a pup that age
Thanks for the post. Sorry for the confusion...he was 11.5 lbs at 9 weeks. He feels heavier so I'm sure he weighs more now. He has his next checkup this week!
Re: Gus PIC
He's such a cutie!
Thanks. Our vet suggests Medi-Cal...
...to everyone that wants their animals on a high quality food. I have used it before with other breeds (such as St. Bernard) and was very happy. Unfortunately you can only get it from vets here in Canada, not at any store. On the other hand, I have been to many different vets, and it does seem to be the number 1 food recommended.
Have a great day, and don't forget to kiss someone you love!

Re: bullies can continue to spread out for the first few years..
Thanks for the info. I'd love to see what Gus looks like now!
Re: You're heading into the "don't look" stage
Thanks for the reassurance. I heard there is a gawky stage!! It's amazing how much he's changed in just a few weeks...And the photos are great!!
Re: We got Roxy when She was 13 weeks old...
Roxy is beautiful! Thanks for sharing the pics. Just curious...why did your vet put her on medi-cal?
Re: I start changing them over
Thanks for the info! I'm trying to figure out how to post pictures on this sight. I thnk I need to subscribe to photobucket, right?
bullies can continue to spread out for the first few years..
they seem to change all the time
mine are forever changing
Gus is not quite three and still changing
Bella put on tons of chest size..in the between 2 and 3...
they do change lots and lots
as as puppies even more soo
sounds like your puppy is a good weight to me too
Bella is 42 pounds now
Gus is 52 pounds
both of my bullies are fairly slim too..
not big bullies at all
both reached their weights I think by 9 months and then just filled out over the years more to catch up..with their bigger heads..lol so to speak
I feed 4 cups a day to a pup that age
11.5lbs for 11 weeks sounds a little slight to me.
Beautiful Baby!
That's one of the cutest pups I have seen in a long time.
I start changing them over
At about 14 weeks. I slowly add the new food with the puppy food. I don't think bulldogs actually need puppy food either. I would love to see some pics of your pup.
You're heading into the "don't look" stage
As bulldogs grow they can go through all kinds of growth spurts. They get slim, they fill out. Body is big...head is small. From 3 to 6 months old can be a very awkward time for a bulldog.
It will all come together. It will take several months. Be patient.
Sue
We got Roxy when She was 13 weeks old...
and was 17 lbs. We had her on Medi-Cal growth (puppy) formula until 4 months of age. The we switched her to Medi-Cal adolescent formula, which she will get until 1 year. She has always had a tbsn or so of yogurt with each meal, and healthy snacks such as celery, apples, and treats that we get at the vet. No other people food. She has always had a good healthy shape when you look from above.
She basically gained a pound a week. I would say you could see when she left the "puppy" phase and got into the "teen" phase because she became very lanky. Her chest was the first to become noticeably larger, and only now is she starting get that round in the shoulders look. She will be 9 months old on the 25th of this month and is 40 lbs right now.
Hope this helps or is interesting.
Have a great day, and don't forget to kiss someone you love!

Re: Each pup is different
Thanks for the tip! How long do you recommend keeping a bullie on puppy kibble? I've heard contrary reports. My breeder doesn't put her dogs on puppy food at all but we opted for the puppy formula, per our vet's advice.
Each pup is different
It sounds like your pup is a good weight but I would probably increase the food to 3 cups a day or 1 cup three times a day. I remember being astounded by how quickly my first bullie gained weight. For several months, she gained about 10 lbs a month before slowing down. Of course I fed her puppy food for about the first 6 months which I haven't done with any of my other pups.
