HELP!! blood in vomit

Tank, our year and a half bulldog just threw up a small amount of blood this morning. This is the first time this has happened and he seems fine otherwise. He is playing like normal. Our vet is closed right now and we are hesitant to take him to the emergency room due to the high cost. Is there anything we should be looking out for? Any ideas about what it might be?

Thank you for your help!

Invest in purchase of a digital thermometer

With a bulldog, you should have one in your cupboard. Much easier and safer to use than a glass/mercury one. Remember that the normal for a mid-large size dog is about 101-102 (range for dogs in general is 100.5 to 102.5, with the higher numbers usually with small nervous-type dogs). Anything over 103 is "feverish" and anything over 104 IMHO needs to be reduced (easiest way is to put dog in tub with tepid-to-cool water, NOT COLD)and rinse the dog for several minutes, then take temperature again. Dog needs vet care ASAP...depending on how great a distance between home and your vet or ER, you may want/need to cool dog down before leaving home. Wrap a wet/damp dog to prevent chill. Extended period of high fever risks permanent damage/loss of life.

to take the temperature

use a rectal thermometer, put on a thin layer of vaseline and insert about 1.5 inches. If it's digital, hold there till it beeps. If you're using an old fashioned mercury thermometer, make sure to "shake down" the mercury before you start by holding the end of the thermometer opposite the bulb and give several strong flicks of the wrist. Insert the thermometer and hold in place for at least 2 minutes.
Here's a link to a video on how to use it.

Re: If he's behaving normally

It was literally 3 drops. He's pooped twice since and they were normal. He ate quite a bit of xmas tree yesterday as well. Do you think a vet visit is necessary even tomorrow if no other symptom asise? Also, what is the best way to take his temp? I've never done it only seen it done at vet. Thanks!!

If he's behaving normally

and it was a small amount, and is peeing and pooping ok, I think you'll be ok to wait until tomorrow. If he becomes distressed (ie breathing difficulty), lethargic, repeated vomiting, or has a fever you may need to go to the ER today.
