Heat this soon after delivery?
Submitted by hezzbullies on April 21, 2010 - 12:29amMy Belle had her pups 4 weeks ago today. I noticed that she had a drop of blood from her this evening. It was bright red. Her discharge had completely cleared and stopped this past week. She isn't nursing the pups as much this week either.
Could she be coming into heat so soon after having her pups?

I was only concerned because
the d/c had started dark red/black, then brown and lightened until it was almost clear before stopping. I was surprised to see bright red, fresh blood. Thanks for the replies, I feel better now!

And to set aside some concerns, check
her gums to be sure they aren't "pale", be sure she is getting enough fluids and isn't acting "weak". With lots of fresh blood and the above signs of concern, I'd speak with the vet but as was said, some discharge until pups are 8-10wks old is not unusual.

I saw blood drops when Carmela's babies were 8 weeks. It's normal to see blood here and there for some time.
Hershey had some kind of discharge up until about 6
weeks after se delivered...mostly dark brown jelly type stuff....pups are 7 weeks now
its from her puppies
some bleed and some dont when they are nursing. Holly just stopped bleeding, her puppies are 10 weeks old.
