Having food problems again looking for advice...

We are feeding NB sweet potato and venison and have been for about 2-3 months. Everything was going great both our bullies have good stools still and they love the food and treats, however Dink is still having an issue with his feet and face (licking, scratching and turning brown) and they both are having horrible gas. I know gas is normal here and there but this is ALL DAY and the smell is even worse. Looking for advice on a food that is easy on the stomach and still helps with skin issues. Any and all posts are appreciated! Thanks in advance happy.gif Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Don't get steamed......

If you re-read the post it clearly states I agree that excessive gas is not normal. Again there are other reasons why these dogs get gas. It's not just the food that can cause this. That is the only point I was trying to make.

not you i just get.....

a hot steam on when some one says all bulldosg have gas, or shallow hips, or cant breath or what ever else their is....i got so hot at a new vet when they said well what do you expect its a bulldog....it just upsets me....their is no reason for unhealthy bulldogs....but the byb...will lay it down well its a normale bulldog thing....just so they dont have to be responsible for the genetic mess they breed...
so dont you worry and take good care of your dog...and dont forget to keep us posted....

Sorry Judy~

If you we under the impression that we think their gas is normal. I can promise you we don't think this is normal. We are trying to remedy it. I definately don't want them to have discomfort of any sort. They are both doing very well on the new food though so we can only hope that it keeps helping. I just wanted to make sure I didn't ruffle any feathers because we appreciate the suggestions happy.gif

any vet or breeder will say its normale??????

so to you its ok ..... i find that back yard breeders are the ones who say oh bulldogs have gas, bulldogs cant breath, bulldogs have bad hipe, bulldogs have small treacheas and anything else to excuse bad breeding i know that for a fact believe me......gas is not a normale function of the body....and if my dog was farting on a constant basis i would look into it...and i would go to the vet and i would recommend a person to go to the vet.....so you can laugh it off its up to you everyone has their thougts and we try to respect them as they come....
so gas is not normale.......

Solid Gold

is a great food. I fed that to Cleo for a while but got tired of feeding 2 different brands of food. I can't remember what variety I was feeding.

Agree Judy and Elaine

I'm always amazed that everyone complains about bullies and gas. My dogs do not have gas. It's not a problem. Yes once in a great while they may, but it's probably something my husband has given them to eat. Once it was shrimp for Norbert the day before a boating trip. Now that was some bad gas sad.gif Last night for desert they got Cyrus O'Leary's Crumb Apple Pie and Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream. My husband doesn't listen to me.

Well we are trying Calofornia Natural....

Im aware gas is normal. However what's coming from our two bullys behinds is way more than normal. We have gradually starting mixing new food with current food as of saturday. We are trying California natural and the pupps like it so far so I'll update in about a week or so happy.gif thanks again for all the replys!

If CN doesn't work you might want to consider Fromm

I'm doing a mixture of CN and Fromm (my pup had loose stools but never gas) and he seems to be doing better. Fromm has probiotics in the food and my pup goes crazy for the salmon a la vegetable formula.

No disrespect intended....

.... and I probably should of responded to the other email line but that was quite an extreme
statement. A unexperienced bully owner reads "gas not normal for dogs or humans" and they'll be running to the vet for their dog on the 1st fart and scheduling a colonoscopy for themselves.
I have to say it did give me a good laugh though. happy.gif

gas

gas not normal??

So you're saying that if a dog has gas it's not normal? There are other ways a dog can get gas than by food; eating too fast, feeding with a raised bowl, breathing too rapidly etc. Now if you're talking about a nonstop gas machine yes, excessive gas is not normal but please to say any gas is not normal is quite extreme. Any reputable vet or description on Eng. Bulldogs is going to tell you that some gas is normal. So I agree food is a contributing factor for gas but definately not the only source.

Javier

agree, gas is not normal..

gas is not normale....

no human or dog should have gas...gas is the stomachs way of saying it cant process the food its getting....kibble is driven by wheat prices....so you never know what your getting....your dog will do great on it then bang gas or loose stools...tums may help with the gas...then look for as low grain as you can....if possible buy two bags at a time from the same lot......
but gas is not good....in many ways...thou not proven an older dog may get bloat from gas...its not hard for the stomach to turn and twist....

I had mine On C Natural and they all had tear stains. Just

switched to Nutro, fish and potato and they are great. C Natural worked for awhile, but they always had tear stains. Spike is the only one on Dick Van Patten Venison. He is doing well too, no more tear stains.

Yes, I've been having problems too

I was feeding NB sweet potato and fish. All of a sudden my dogs feet started turning brown and Trace got an IDC. I recently switched to TOTW wetlands formula.

Have you tried C. Natural?

That food has very simple ingredients and is designed for sensitive tummies. You might want to try the lamb and rice formula. My pup never had any gas on that food.

NB....

Same here. Are you all using the limited ingredients type? I Heard about a brand called Solid Gold which I'm now trying and is also sold at Petco, anybody have input on that brand? It's suppose to be very close to going raw. It's been only one week so more input later.
