grain free puppy food

Can someone recommend a good grain free puppy food or a food designed for a sensitive system? My 10 week old Bullie is eating California Natural (Chicken and Rice)mixed with Canidae all stages formula and has been having soft stools. I tried giving him oatmeal to firm up his stool but it went right through him. I've been told he might have a grain allergy so I'm looking into finding a high quality puppy formula for him.

Also I've been told EUKANUBA is a good brand. Anyone have success witht his?

Canidae grain free

Thanks, Liz! I might give Canidae grain free a shot. He currently gets Canidae chicken and rice all stages and the California Natural puppy formula. If I want to convert over to the grain free Canidae any suggestions on how to transition over...?

canned pedigree or mighty morsels

Thanks for the post! If I decide to try the canned pedigree or mighty morsels can I mix it in with his regular food? I heard it's not good to change foods drastically. And how much would you recommend I add it--ie. half of the new stuff and half of his regular food? Also how long should I do it for?

Re: Have you tried some pumpkin?

The pumpkin seems to be working! I added a teaspoon to his midday meal yesterday and a teaspoon today and today's was the firmest stool I've seen yet. How much longer should I use the stuff..?

Thanks!

being that he is only 10 weeks and at the perfect age for it

have you had a fecal ran on him at the vets to check for coccidiosis, worms, giardia etc..all of which will cause runny poo!

As for food. Puppies take time. Some pups leave and adjust tonew ood with no problems, others take 1-2 months with still occasional soft formed stools.

This may sound really crazy but when any one of my dogs have runny poo canned pedigree and or Mighty Morsels firm them right up. Its crap food but it works because its easy to digest. Corn bsed foods with fillers are actually very easy on puppies tummies when transitioning to higher quality foods.
I fed my puppies RC baby dog and RC puppy 32 with no problems. It does have corn mal, is VERY high in protein but i only feed it until 8-10 weeks. Then i slowly start switching them to a lower protein food in the higher to mid 20% range.

I'll try that. Should I keep using the yogurt or give that a rest for a while and just go with the pumpkin?

Thanks!

we use...

canidae all life stages grain free, they also have a fish one too. Seems to be doing good on our 9th bag, longest time he's been on one type of food. I hear natural balance and tase of the wild have good grain free formulations also! good luck!

Liz

Hmmm, that's weird most bullies just love the pumpkin.

We never had to make it appealing to Dozer he ate it right off the spoon, lol. Not sure what you could put in it to make it more appealing, but when we mix it with Dozer's kibble we combine it really well so that every piece of kibble has pumpkin on it. Kind of like mixing dry kibble with canned food, try mixing it up really well and see if that makes a diif, don't just put a couple spoonfuls on top.

Hi Jessi Ann,

Thanks for the post! You are not the only one who has said switching foods may backfire so I am taking that under advisement and will stick with the same food for now! I tried the canned pumpkin a few days ago and he just ate around it! Any suggestions for making it more appetizing..?

Thanks!

Have you tried some pumpkin?

When Dozer was having soft stools and runny ones as a pup we added a couple tablespoons of pumpkin, (plain, not spiced) to his kibble abd it firmed his stools right up. You might try adding that to the kibble he eats now and see if it helps. We learned quickly that switching foods can and usually dsoes make the problem worse before it gets better. The pumpkin was a cheaper easier solution for us.
