Good Morning all! (skin question)

Our female American bulldog can go approx two weeks between baths (unless she gets into something:) ) Our male English seems to start to stink about 3 days after a bath. We bath him with an oatmeal shampoo by DAVIS. I have been fishing around on the internet and think that he may have canine seborrhea according to the symptoms they have listed. Has anyone ever had to deal with this before or have any suggestions. We are going to make him a vet appointment of course, but any input is much appreciated.

Thanks from FL happy.gif

Re: Good Morning all! (skin question)

I have found dogs that have a lot of yeast have a tendency to have an odor. I would try a medicated shampoo, such as Chlorahexyderm or Malaseb shampoo. He could have a bacterial infection and that could be causing him to have an odor. Taking the dog to a vet is a good idea though so you know what you are dealing with rather then second guess. The medicated shampoo's, you leave set on the skin about 10 minutes once you lather them, and then rinse. If it is a bacterial infection you may also need a course of antibiotics to get it under control. I wish you luck in getting to the bottom of this.

suggestion

I bathe Chloe with store brand dandruff shampoo mixed with a little tea tree oil. She has never had any skin issues... not sure if it's the shampoo/tea tree oil combo, but it's worth a try!
Hope it helps.

agree

and the Oatmeal based shampoo you are using may be a culprit to some of the issues. While Oaltmeal based shampoos are great for dry skin, when used routinly you can over do it and cause a buildup on the dog, that in return causes odor, skin problems etc.

Try one of the suggested shampoos and i also use dandruff shampoo as well, although some will say thsi is bad for a dog because thier PH is different. I have found the exact opposite to be true.
