Good food for my dog who has food allergies

I have a 4 year old male bulldog that has food allergies. We feed him natural balance fish formula dog food. All it has is fish and potatoes as main ingredients. A 27 lb bag is $50 and since I am laid off right now I am looking for any area's where I can cut back.

Can anyone recommend a good quality dog food that might be alittle cheaper?

He gets these recurrent ear infections a couple times a year(it a fortune at the vet). at first we thought it was the chicken in the dog food, so we tried different foods til we found one with just one protein and one carb to limit his intake for common food allergies. It seemed to work his skin got better but later on down the road the ear infections came back.

Our vet thinks its allergies to molds, household stuff and other kinds of seasonal allergies. We can tell when he's going to come down with an ear problem because we can smell an odor coming from his ears.

I wish we could pin point this problem and treat it, it seems like it is more in the fall/winter months.

Re: I use IAMS Lamb and Rice and have been amazed with the resul

I would like to try Iams but I am so apprehensive about switching because he is doing so well on natural balance. The reason I want to cut back on the cost is I am recently unemployed. It's a double edge sword though,if I save money on the food but if he reacts to the new food and I need to take him to the vet I am out even more money.

Right now we are spending about $50 a month on billybob (bulldog) and $35-$40 every 6 weeks on mel (border collie). I know I should not put a price on good health for my dogs but I wish I could do it for less.

I use IAMS Lamb and Rice and have been amazed with the results..

Re: Do you clean his ears weekly?

Thanks for the ear cleaning solution. I wish i could figure out why the infections occur in the first place.

Do you clean his ears weekly?

Besides the commercial ear cleaners there's a simple at-home recipe: 1/3 measure of hydrogen peroxide, 1/3 measure of cider vinegar and 1/3 measure of water. Keep in a closed container. Soak 1-2 cotton balls and wipe ear folds well with wet cotton, then follow with dry. OK if a little gets down the canal.

If you don't want to keep a lot mixed up, you can use only 1T of each ingredient and that should give you enough for one cleaning. The vinegar is to resist fungus; the peroxide is to help clean with its bubbling action; the water is to dilute the preparation. HTH

Re: is that from Costco? n/m

your dog has almost the same color and markins as Billybob. They could be related.
