food for 7 week old puppies

Merry Christmas....I just had my puppies evaluated by one of the top breeders and he said he would like to see the puppies chubbier and that he adds condensed milk to the kibble. Does anyone do this? Its the holidays so he is away and can't get a response from him. I wanted to know for how long and do I dilute it? Do they start the gruel process with this from the 3 week part. I have them on Natural Balance sweet potato and fish. Any help would be appreciated.

I used..

I soaked the pups kibble in half water half goats milk, Got the kibble semi-soft and added canned pumpkin, 1 tbl spoon of cottage cheese, I also recommend using Bil Jac Frozen Dog Food, Mix it with there kibble it did help mine put on more weight. When my puppies turned 9 weeks i quit adding the goats milk and pumpkin.

I use goats milk to supplement very young pups

or for puppies who's dams can't nurse them(mastitis etc) but once they get weaned and are eating kibble pretty decent I remove the milk products. Some dogs can tolerate milk products and some can't; so we just go with the theory that none can to avoid additional problems.

To those who understand no explanation is needed. To those who don't no explanation is possible.

You can add a few different things....

one is goat's milk as Helen said....or some yogurt ... or some cottage cheese...by 7 weeks old their teeth should be getting sharp and strong enough not to need 'mush' any more I would think...softened but not mush....there is also the nutrical type of stuff that they make that is higher calorie for pups. Also still have to feed them 3 or 4 times a day still...That dog food is lower in protein but Nova is nice a fat on it...she eats about cup and half or so twice a day + a biscuit here and there...I had her on TOTW but decided to give the limited ingredient stuff a longer trial w/ her and my other girl Kimora....and they all seemed to like the 2 equally...haven't decided yet which is better for them for tearstaining.
Want to see your baby in 'pawson'...maybe time for an outing for her??? Down to my place, ie!!

How long

How long do you continue it for and what do you recomend when they leave? I figured this person has been breeding top bulldogs for 35 or more years so he should know.

An old vet years ago told me to use goats milk as it is the most

I would never add condensed milk as it has sugar in it, I add ev

mixed 1 can ot 1 can water and soak the kibble in it. Plus I give a pet tab each pup. I also scramble 1 egg in butter for every 2 pups at this age 4 pups+ 2 egges, etc. and after they are scrambled I add 1 tablespoon of cottage cheese 4% for all. I feed the eggs in the morning when I first get up. Hope tyhis helps.

I do not give milk products to pups once weaned.....

dogs do not produce lactase which is the enzyme that break downs lactose in dairy products. Also cow/goat milk which is usually used as supplement with puppies is much richer than a bitches milk and makes it harder for them to digest. The condensed milk is very high in sugar which can lead to allergies. To add a little weight you might want to go with the same variety canned food mixed with the dry kibble. Just my .02
