I left my billie with a friend for a few weeks to go on vacation. She came back with a lot of fleas, so I bath'd her and put on her advantage. She must have been sctratching a lot, there are bumps that i think she has scratched off, she has dried blood in her coat in small areas all over, on her face and neck are the worst. I gave her benedryl and put coryizon cream on them, but what else should I do? Should I take her in??Or give it a few days? It is worse where the most fleas were.
My Phiona is allergic to flea bites
and all it takes is one to set off her response. I have to treat her every 3 weeks with Frontline and usually midway thru we give her a capstar. She will scratch herself to a bloody pulp if I don't do this. I have a friend that has a chihuahua that had to be cat box trained at 5 yrs old he had the flea allergies so bad. There were times I seen that dog before he got cat box trained with NO fur on him.....he looked like a hairless dog.

To those who understand no explanation is needed. To those who don't no explanation is possible.

Some dogs have "an allergic response" to flea bites
and the saliva of the biting insect. My very first bulldog (35+yrs ago) got so overridden with fleas when we were on vacation (no combing, no bathing for 2wks) that he had a mild seizure from the flea bites...so in this case I would suggest a vet visit and a shot of steroids, perhaps a couple days worth of pred to help relieve her terrible itching and allow those skin sores to dry. And I would recommend bathing her with a medicated shampoo also, like Malaseb or Nolvasan. It may be that Benadryl tablets isn't quite enough for this little one.
