First Heat.... very swollen vulva
Submitted by nebmsu on April 20, 2010 - 11:13pmHi! This is my first unaltered Bully and she is in season at 8 months! I wasn't expecting this so soon,but oh well!
My question is...
she has been in heat for about 8 days now and her vulva is so swollen
that it almost looks like she is growing, ....well testicles!! Is it normal for her to be this engorged? She doesn't seem uncomfortable except when she
has a bowel movement.. little whimpers , but thats about it. She is peeing
a lot more often, but I believe that is normal.
Any thoughts?

Yep, others have reported much success with the bathing suits
and they DO look adorabull! If you want a consult re panties, email Rhiann...she makes them for sale and can adjust to the size of your bitch.

standard "britches" and Dog Panties do not fit Bullies too well! I have
altered a few pairs and am considering making my own... Anyone have a pattern
they want to sell/give out??
So far, the best method I have found is using a one-piece girls Bathing suit..

I am trying to find the line between letting nature take its course, and making sure nothing is "Wrong"! Your ViVi looks alot like my Daisy!! : )

Just went through that same thing!
Vivi is my first girl & I was very nervous about her first heat cycle. She just finished last week. But yes, I agree...she was soooo swollen around day 8-10 that it looked like testicles. And Vivi did the same thing...seemed a bit constipated when she pooped (grunting) & peed a bit more but that was her spreading her scent. It was my first heat cycle, but people did tell me it was totally normal.
Her swelling started to go down about day 15 or so.

Yes, sounds within normal limits.
Because she is so swollen, it may be difficult to keep her clean there (using baby wipes for external cleaning only) so know that you can also put her in the tub for a light bathing if she gets too smelly (as she may in her 3rd week). Are you using any diapers or pads? If so, check her legs and crotch area for any chafing too.
