eye goop

Hi everyone,
I cleaned Stella's eyes today at lunch and then when I came home from work she had goop again!
I took a picture. This is different from her regular eye junk. Her eyes don't seem any different than normal.
She was scratching a little today, but that isn't unusual either.

thoughts?

Thanks in advance![linked image]

Tiffany and Stella

Thank you

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to thank you for your input.
Stella's eyes were not goopy this morning.
She does seem a little lethargic, and hasn't potty'd as much as I would like to see.
She is eating fine and I am going to get a thermometer tonight to take her temp.

I'll keep you posted.

Britta

I started using my old Britta water pitcher, [new filters] and my pups evestains are clearing up. They both eat different food, so it had to be the water, The boss [Dottie] says it's rust in the water, Buddy got a little messy out in the snow, and his wrinkles looked a little wet and red around his mouth at the end of the eye wrinkle, I used neosporin +pain relief cause it was here, worked nice, in one treatment, some say it keeps the area wet, I didn't see that.

You can clean this tear stain track in various ways,

but it should be cleaned before putting any medication on the irritation. I suggest using a chlorhexidine solution like an earwash or similar, using care to NOT get into the eye itself, and let the skin "dry"; then put a dab of diaper ointment on your finger and in one long continuous swipe, run a strip down the track. My dogs have been annoyed by the odor of some of the diaper ointment such as Desitin, so I bought Aveeno diaper ointment that is odorless, and it works well. Clean the next day, without rubbing hard but do clean it...dry it...and then put a fresh coat of the ointment. By the 3rd day it should be much better, perhaps just needing a little more time/fresh air to completely heal.

If the eye appears a bit 'dry' or not shiny, you might want to do some warm (not hot) compresses laid across the closed eyelids for several minutes (test warmness against your own eyelid to verify warmth without being too hot) as this should stimulate distribution of the oils in the eyelids to secrete onto the corneal surface which mixes the tear fluid to allow it to remain in the eye longer, making blinking more comfortable. Of course the quick-fix is to add artificial tears, but using tears in conjunction with compresses may provide better assistance to ocular comfort. happy.gif

I had this happen

with Josie Louise, I was an over achiever in the eye wiping department that day. I had rubbed them to many times and they got a little raw and tender. I took a qtip with gold bond powder and dabbed the powder on to soothe and heal. It healed within a day or two, very sensitive skin and a lot of shedding at the time. That was my experience with a similiar looking result. I hope that offers some remedy and maybe a cause. J & T
