We are looking for some additional help with our Winston. His shedding got better and now it is very bad, almost worse than before.
He is being treated for demodex which we know can cause shedding. He was on invermectin and is now on Promeris (1 dose in). The hair is everywhere to the point we vacuum almost everyday.
He eats Natural Balance Salmon & Sweet Potato as that was recommended by someone on here to help with his coat before and it has helped but now the shedding has returned!
We have read that some bullies have had issues with adding extra salmon oil to their food. We were also told to try sunflower oil instead. Has anyone tried these?
Just looking for some feedback and willing to try just about anything for our poor little guy!
Re: Extreme Shedding!!!!
How old is he? Along with the demodex he might just be going through his first big shed. Most of our dogs seem to do this around their first birthday.
I know a food supplement that will help with the coat and with t
It is Emu oil with a topical that is also Emu oil. It is guaranteed to help or your money back. You can't get any better than tha. It has worked great onJulie and now her coat feels as if se is 11 months old instead of almost 11 years old!
thoughts re demodex treatment
I know there are two schools of thought re treatment for demodex but I will give you mine: treat it aggressively and that means using the Dip as well as oral meds (like Ivermectin or Promeris or equal). I know the usual brand of dip was removed from the market for some time (don't know if its back) but there are equivalent medications (amitraz...is that the one?) that will jump-start the killing of the mites that it would seem have a deep hold on your bulldog. Yes, they are toxic...so is the treatment for heartworm (not prevention,TREATMENT) and some other maladies and they can be used safely if one follows the instructions, keeps the medication out of the dog's mouth, nose, ears and eyes, but soaks the skin thoroughly and allows the dog to "drip-dry".
If you continue with the oral treatment, it will eventually be successful but my concern is always that the longer it takes to turn this dog around, the longer he lives with an immune system in depression, and the longer the hair follicles are exposed to damage, sometimes resulting in limited fur regrowth.
I suggest you consider this alternative and talk it out with your vet, the pros and cons of a multi-faceted treatment.
He will be a yr in January
the shedding just seems to be getting worse and worse. Someone recommended putting sunflower oil on his food? We will try anything at this point. Good thing is he likes to be brushed!
