I would not go ahead with the surgery unless you go to a dermatologist specialist. My boys ears were closing up due to infections. Surgery is a last resort if meds don't work. He was on prednisone for a month then a combo of different ear meds. Found out he was also allergic to flaxseed that was in his food. All cleared up and no surgery was necessary. Please spend the extra money and go see a Dermatologist for dogs. Ears are included in their practice aside from skin issues. Good Luck!

I had two vets look at my Dozer's shoulder when he was limping and one wanted to do a costly OCS surgery and it could have had tons of complications. I took him to a vet recommended off of the home page at BDW for a 2nd opinion. And luckily Dr. Wilson said no surgery was necessary we followed his orders and my dozer's limp healed in a few weeks and he's fine now. No surgery was needed. Don't get surgery just yet find a good derma vet or a good seasoned bullie vet and get a 3rd or 4th opinion if you have to. Good Luck!!

My friend just had a new treatment used on her Lab's ears
The dog kept ear infections all the time and nothing helped. She's not finished with the treatment yet so it's too early to know if it has worked.
Here's the link, it's the BNP otic ointment.
